Aaaaw! so adorable! The lady at one of the shipping companies said they just shipped a Burmese mountain dog puppy from Germany to the U.S. and it was about $3500 for the shipping. My little spitz from NEw Zealand to HAwaii is about $2000.
It's so funny how dogs have such different personalities!
I'd much rather get locally but after a few years of looking I did confirm there's no breeders here. And after speaking with the breeders over in Australia and New Zealand they do ship frequently to Hawaii so that must be how I see some here and there.Β
Are Burmese mountain dogs usually lazy? Our Terri (Terrier doberman mix) just "broke her butt"... she has a slipped disc or something so might need surgery next week. She's already 11 years old. She's my mom's dog but I take care of terri (like the rest of my crazy family) so I figure I can have my own puppy! Plus I need something to reduce my stress. My bird doesn't wanna hang out with me any more now that she has another bird.Β
And yes! I find out next week Friday if the mommy dog is pregnant! Ironically same day as the delayed release of Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs movie that I want to see! Fingers crossed that it did take. Then wait until mid May to see if a boy puppy comes out! All of her females are spoken for but I get any boy that comes out!Β
Yes, funny that it's cheaper to have them fixed! but it means they spend more time with the family instead of looking for mates. My puppy would be $3000 neutered or $3500 for breeding rights. I'm thinking neutered because it makes them easier to train too... then on top of that $2000 for shipping. But it is worth every penny! I completely agree!

and I was initially shocked at the price tag of my first Berner..that shipping price definitely puts me in my place But at the same time, I understand and know what you mean by looking for local breeders. Before I got my Berners, I was looking at the Tibetan Mastiff...which-long story short-I did find a breeder in my state, but she was not very nice.
Thankfully I happened to be at a dog show and that's when I encountered my first Bernese Mountain Dog...I saw the handler on the ground brushing out his coat, and our eyes locked for a moment; just long enough that the Berner lifted his paw at me and the handler gladly gave me permission to pet him I think that's called love at first sight??? I've always seen the breed on tv but to see one in real life is another story
The Berners are true to their working breed status, but as they grow up, they do adapt to your life style rather easily....or maybe mine are just lazy and very pampered....and stubborn to an extent...and 'SMART'-I'm still on the fence about that word for at least my dogs. Mayleen does have the 'made you look/get up' game down pact though-if one of the other dogs is in her spot, she'll get all excited, which, in turn, excites the other dogs to get up and go to the door...which also prompts whoever is in the room to go with the dogs...and as you turn around, Mayleen will make a bee line to her spot and that's the end of that drama
And then there's Billy Boy...he's made the bath room '''HIS ROOM''' he even knows how to open and close that door too. He tends to go to that room when the AC is on-cause that's the only small room that gets the coldest-or if he's just done with the day, he'll go to his room...he's such a sad dog Other than that...I guess I can say that they're smart when it benefits them.
I'm sorry to hear about your Terri, and I hope that the surgery goes well. Not sure how she'll do after she recovers though-hopefully good though. But I'd also want to bring up that if it's available near you; possibly finding a vet/dog doctor that does chiropractor/acupuncture for dogs. I currently have Mayleen seeing one for her back legs/hips. If I hadn't found that Vet years ago...I'm actually not sure if Mayleen would be with me right now. Mayleen's back knees do not bend properly-like they bend the opposite way which shouldn't happen but it does-I think it was one of those random chances that occurred as she grew up, because I haven't heard if her litter mates had the same problem or not. Berners do have chances for hip problems and cancers down the line, but what Mayleen has is...not typical for the breed. I could have done surgery for her when she was a puppy...but at the time I wasn't fond of the idea that way too many people/vets saying that they've never seen such a case before, that I made it my job to find a non-surgical solution...which ended up being a vet that specializes in horse and dog chiropractor/acupuncture...and that makes me swear up and down that that works amazingly well.
That'll be awesome if a boy puppy does comes out I really do hope that you'll get that puppy because I would love to see fluffy cute puppy photos It's also pretty nice that that they're informing you about the price difference right off the back like that. I informed Mayleen's breeders that she was getting fixed as soon as she could, whereas Billy Boy...who happens to be a show form breed-his blood line has alot of show dogs in it, which meant the higher price tag; and I held off on getting him fixed because I did plan on showing him. He only had three shows as a puppy..then my work schedule got in the way and he wasn't shown after that; but I did get him fixed last year though because a couple red flags started to show up in his health and getting him fixed solved literally all the health flags that came up.
My goodness I sure wrote alot Hope you don'd mind. It's just so awesome to hear about your possibly new puppy and also talk about my own puppy dogs I couldn't say it better than you, they truly are 'worth every penny'

Oooh, this was so nice to read! That is too funny! Mayleen totally sounds like a fun dog! Haha, and poor Billy just follows it every time? XD
That's such a cool story! I've never been to dog shows, but that'd be amazing! We were lucky and got Tobey for free when I was little. Grandma's friend had show dogs and she knew right off the bat Tobey was going to be too big to show, so we got him! It's a romantic notation to get the same breed, but after researching they're so perfect for me.
They have Teflon fur, so mud and dirt doesn't stick to them. They don't have a doggy smell, and they're only supposed to be bathed once a month. They're spitz so they're smart, but because they're bred as companions instead of hunting dogs, they're very friendly.
They don't need a ton of exercise, but probably the same amount of what I would normally do - just a two mile walk up and down the mountain. But they're also crazy "people pleasers" and always want to impress their family. They're a relatively new breed, 1920s, and they don't have any real health issues.
Tobey lived to 16 years old, never had a health problem until the very end! That's why I married my husband. XD he reminds me of my Tobey. He's good looking, can be totally ditsy (my sis calls Tobey a handsome idiot) but he's really sweet, always happy to see me regardless of how grouchy I always am.
Acupuncture for a dog! Wonder if we have that here.... Terri has tons of weird issues. She's a humane society dog, and she's so not... dog like. She's never enthusiastic and she's always sighing at us. Lol. But because I take care of her, she secretly always comes to me when she's upset. She cries in public when my mom leaves her by the car, but if she's terrified (thunder) she'll only hang out by me. She also brings me rotten
Week old dead birds at 2am when I come home drunk. LOL

I love the idea of having several of the same pokemon, each one with it's own characteristics.
