Description The hardest drawing up to now (I had never drawn backgrounds before...), but sometimes I like challenging myself... ^^
Robert Trujillo from Metallica, the man that most of all made me wanna learn to play bass (yes, even more than the legendary Cliff Burton or Steve Harris, who's another great source of inspiration for me...).

Size: smaller than A4
Tools: graphite (B-6B) and charcoal; kneaded eraser
Photoshop used just to make the scan look [quite] like the original

Thank you sooo much, dear! It was hard to catch his expression (and features) since the drawing's pretty small (smaller than A4), so the face resulted tiny, but I'm happy to hear I managed to nail it!

Ah i always struggle with anything smaller than a3 really! Unless its just a simple portrait which doesn't require too much detail more like a sketch or a doodle i find it way easir to work on big medium
So thinking you did that on such small scale is really really good

Make his fight, on the hill, in the early day, constant chill deep inside! Shouting gun, I run, through the endless gray, on they fight for the right, yes, but who's to say? Excellent job.

Oh thank you, and welcome on DA! And by the way, that's one of my favourite songs!

For whom the bell tolls, time marches on!
For whom the bell tolls!
I can't remember the notes of it on guitar or bass, but when I play the song, FLAWLESS! How does that work?

Wow! A friend of mine's trying to learn it with the bass, and when she does... I'll ask her to teach me! (I've played the bass just for a few months... ^^)

I would send you a picture of my little collection, but my tablet doesn't take pictures. I have 2 Fender Stratocasters, one is a black body with a white pannel. The other has a Ride The Lightning paint job. My bass, I forget wtf it is. I do know that it's made by Fender.

Thank you so much! I don't like drawing backgrounds, and they're surely the part that I detail the least, but I was tired of seeing my characters live in an infinite vacuum...Β Β

You'll always improve if you always draw
It's no problem, i'm always happy to view your new works.

I did have a queation though Did you use reference for this drawing, or is it from imagination?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Polaris279 In reply to HarleyTheKind [2014-11-11 20:00:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh, of course I used a reference: I was told (from more than one person, also by you, do you remember it?) I should try to draw from my imagination, try to free me and my art from references or merely reproducing what I see, but I don't feel I'm ready to do that... yet.

Realism is very important to me, and at the moment I really need a reference when I draw: otherwise, I can't figure out how shadows work, where highlights should be or how to render different textures... I suppose that's something I should work on in the future... ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HarleyTheKind In reply to Polaris279 [2014-12-22 03:48:07 +0000 UTC]

Definitely. Use reference, and do as many studies as you want. I just don't think it's to good always using reference, I definitely am hindered due to that.

It's important to always get put of your comfort zone.

I wish ye luck.
