Description 3 and a half hour study from a live model.
Trying to think about big shapes, planes, and colours with this one. I think painting women is a bit harder, especially women with more soft/rounded features like this woman because you don't see the sharp and angular planes that you can see on men's faces.Β  Β
Feedback and critique is always appreciated.

Gorgeous ! You really did a stunning job at simplifying the subject, I especially love the hair and neck area ^^

Thank you so much I often struggle with the neck area so it's nice to hear you mention that you like it

Well what I especially love is the warm reflected light just where her neck and chin connect. It just adds so much believability to the skin !

Lovely !

Oh, I find the opposite to be true in my case - I find women and androgynous males (like Tolkien Elves) easier to draw than men - But maybe it's because 99% of my people drawings have been women and male Elves (except for Sherlock and a bit of Twelfth Doctor doodling), so not a lot of practice xDD

Thank you
Oh I'm sure there are many factors coming into play there- what I've practiced most and personal preference and whatnot. I suppose I find men easier because their faces tend to be more angular so the shapes of the shadows, especially on the cheeks and around the eyes, are more obvious. Plus, if they have a beard that is quite forgiving in the area around the mouth and chin which I find tricky

You're welcome
Yes, Β I'm sure it depends on each person's preferences, practice, etc The bit about the beard makes a lot of sense It's true that it helps with the mouth and chin area, I also found that the few times I've drawn Dwarves or either sex
