What brushes do you use? It looks like you've made a real oil painting instead of working with Photoshop, I wonder how you do it!?

mostly just the regular round hard brush, but the alternating that with a few soft texture brushes and then using lots of smudge tool to blend everything together. The 'oil painting' thing mostly comes from the lighting in this.

i can imagine the frustration, that looks really difficult to detail, a great work

It was more the frustration of staring at a diagram of the musculature of a birds wing and the musculature of a human back and trying to mash them together in a way that doesn't look frightning.
