Description
Fifth step in a commission to build a 54mm model of a Space Marine from before the Horus Heresy. Building on the client's approval of the design at concept 4, I knew I had to start work on the model's pose. This needed to be small enough to fit on a 40mm model which (for a model which would eventually be about 70-75mm high) was a tall order if the model was to possess any dynamism at all. I decided on a "stepping forward menacingly" sort of pose.

Of course, I realize that this sketch is more "mincing forward" than "stepping", but you get the point. The client was also nice enough to agree to a mace rather than a sword. I find long, straight objects like swords surprisingly hard to sculpt satisfactorily at 54mm scale.
