Description
So, imagine this. Luigi has been kidnapped by Bowser once again for one of his sick plots. Mario, being the caring brother that he is, goes to find Luigi. Bowser hears of Mario's approach towards his castle, so he sends his troops out to stop him. It was all going well until Mario found himself out matched by Bowser's troops. He tries to fight his way out but ultimately fails and ends up killing himself in the process.
Hearing of the great hero's demise Bowser waists no time in freely torturing Luigi, knowing that there would never again be any consequence inflicted on him by the elder brother.
The Princess is forced to flee from her kingdom and subjects, the kingdom goes into ruin, the toads either die in the kingdom or flee for safety and the younger brother is left to rot in a cell. Alone.

Think about that the next time you get a game over.
