How did you get the fur to look like that?

I had QUITE a few layers going, the base layer was a flat cut out of the shape I was drawing, in this case, Roanen here. I had painted from left to right, reds to blues that I color picked directly from Roanens picture Pandoras made.
I had a layer I dedicated to the basic shadows: I used various shades of red, purple, and blue as applicable in the location of the colors of the base body. These were both colorpicked and also handpicked. I also had one other layer for some darker shadows around the neck.
The highlight layer - here I did most of my shading for the fur. Since I painted this in Sai, I used one of ryky 'sΒ textured brush settings with my own settings applied, and sorta meticulously scribbled on fur texture a bit. But I used a textured setting for the watercolor brush and dragged over these gently pushed and pulled to make this fur-like texture. I'm pretty happy with it.
The tail fur and back fur as well as markings, eyes, and highlights on the ear are all done on separate layers.
Eye - 4 layers | Tail - 4 layers not including the base layer | 26 other layers for the fur and markings including highlights for everything.
Later today when I am feeling a bit better I will take some screenshots to show you what I mean ^^

:UUUUUUU Thank you! I kinda want to draw something now. Oh man the ideas are swirling. I've needed a fur technique for a long time and finally I have something I can try.

Thanks so much TwT I found a method that, while tedious, worked well for me ^^ Thank you!!!

Hah, I've yet to find a hair painting technique that looks good that isn't also tedious, XD.
