As for the chinese/japanese thing, I would say Chinese because of the name Yin. Yin means female power in Chinese(something along the lines of that) but does not have a Japanese translation. Also, many Japanese name their children after japanese traditional names, especially family names. She can be japanese if some of her ancestors are indeed Chinese. That's when it is up to you as the character's creator to decide what she is
