Description Huh
I spent this week with some portrait practices - and what else could be my theme if not Domhan?
So, from left to right:
1. An Ark'Seguth - Faeld half-blood
2. A Laer lady
3. Azrag, the kadmet herder god (this guys was waaay too much fun to draw)
( Oh I wish I could draw headpieces/jewels/horns better)

So yupp. That's it for today, I guess
You have still a good 20+ day to join my contest, if you'd like to design your own Domhan characters:

Hey I’m from ProjectComment

I really really love this art piece, your execution and style of the characters is gorgeous. I love the subtle different expressions, facial features, and colors that differentiate the characters personalities. I especially like the Laer Lady and Azrag, they’re so cool looking!

For the critique:
1. the purple shading gives the characters a more mysterious tone, however it can look a bit harsh and darkened against the skin. Try using some more reds and oranges to warm up the characters, and then do an overlay of purple or blue to create that soft, purpley effect. Purple and magenta is still really great between the creases of skin, such as directly under the chin, in the elbows and underarms.

2. I’d recommend to broaden the shoulders a bit, they are a bit narrow and they lower down very quickly. Perhaps look up some human references to study anatomy and lengths. You don’t need to make it exactly realistic, but to add some more realistic elements can really put the piece together.

3. perhaps add some light shivers around the hair, to make it look more fine and 3 dimensional. Of course, your hair shading is already superb, so it’s not really a big problem at all.

side note: warming up the cheeks with a little blush can really make your characters pop- not much is needed, but a very little red, orange, or pink can really go a long way.

otherwise, really great art!!!

Awwww, these are brilliant tips, thank you soo much! I especially love the first one (already tried and works like miracle!)
Hehe, I'll try to cure myself of my stupid giraffe-neck syndrome:'D

Yay, thank you!
Well, that'd be a bit tricky considering he is an antilope-horse centaur, but I might try that one day :'D

These are very beautiful portraits

The only thing I could comment on is positioning the light source in a different direction would make the portraits pop more.

Those are pretty amazing. Love the style and execution overall. Your lineart, colouring and shading works so well together!

As a minor nitpick, I would say that, while your style and/or the species shown tend to come across as thin and the long neck contributes to that, in this picture, that effect is enhanced by the seemingly narrower shoulders compared to other stuff I glanced at while going through your Gallery. Of course, here, the focus is definitely on the heads and it would be much more important if you went down a few pixels, so it doesn't matter so much here.

  • While I think the hair might be more noticeable and colourful in the other characters, I think the first character has a lot of volume going on in the hair. Maybe it's just because it's somewhat simpler and therefore I can recognise it better. In comparison, though, the face seems a bit flat and I wish I knew why it seems to me like that. So do the horns, though, and I think that's due to the hair not flowing around as much? The left horn looks better for that reason.
  • The second character is amazing. And so many details. Love it.
I also think the throat lines are better than the first character - I still have the feeling that they are a little high, but the shading isn't as extreme and it makes it look a lot more organic.
  • (this guys was waaay too much fun to draw)And he's so much fun to look at!
  • There's not much else to say - this is pretty high quality work and very nice to look at

Ahaha, you're right, I have a serious case of giraffe-neck disease in drawing :'D It's a bit hard to overcome, especially since I often forgot that I do it.

    1. Ooh, I see your point now! Yeah, I guess I messed the horns up a bit.
Yep, I think he's got a somewhat flatter looking face, I found it very hard to build up the cooler-pale skin tone than the somewhat more natural ones. I shall work on this more
    2. I'm glad you like her!
    3. Ahaha, happy to hear that!

Thank you very much, your comment was super useful and I'm so happy you took all this time and you shared your ideas with me!
    Have an amazing day, friend!
