Description
"Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" - my new series of artworks. The 3rd horseman is now before you! You can ask "where is the horse, guy?", and my answer is "That's so boring to follow classical presentation of this concept ... blah, blah..." (in spite of this at the picture there is a pair of balances, oops) The matter is simple - I can not draw horses
Let me explain the idea of this work: in front of the Famine you can see a field eating by creature's skirt and behind there is only waste ground with graves on it. I decided to depict the Famine's cloak as the big empty bag - the place to put all stolen food. The creature carries a pair of balances, indicating the way that bread would have been weighed during a famine.

Well who says the 'horse' has to be an actual horse...they could be some other thing, such as a Crow or a Raven (both associated with death in some ancient cultures)

The form and wings remind me of a raven or crow, one of the few animals that would thrive in famine conditions, seeing as they are more than willing to eat carrion (a body that has been dead for a while).

As I discovered this, I was listening to "Rasputin" by Boney M, and also found out you were Russian.
I was interested at how much the song pertains to Famine.
"When his drinking and lusting and his hunger for power became known to more and more people,
the demands to do something about this outrageous man became louder and louder."

Hm... the number of favs donesn't necesserely express the image is not appreciated. Many times I like a lot one image, but I don't fav, because I have some "criteria" for faving. So, you may consider this too! About the crits, they help us a lot to re-think our methods. I have thought more about your compotion, and I think I discovered the main reason why it is not so popular is because of the way you set the composition together + lighting. The design elements are cool and the idea, too.

Ok, lets talk about what I ment with composition. Lets trade some ideas if you have time!
I have a question for you in order to give you the answers you asked for.
Have you studied composition, or you compose just intuitively?
And about the lighting, some types of lighting are more pleasant or unpleasunt than others. And it is, as all in art, very subjective.
The lighting combined with shape can either atrackt the viewer and or not.
I think that the shape of the war is very umbiguous, we tend to normally associate the icon with a man, but it has somehow a look that give us doubt. Has somehow a female look. The image is a bit too dark, making us miss interesting details of the "war" and chaos that it brings within. And that light in his (or her) breast is strange, because the shape of the armor over the breast gives us an illusion of a pair of eyes, somehow.

No, I'm nano-physicist, nor artist) And I've never studied drawing, my personal experience in digital paintind amounts to 1.5 years, before it I only tied myself in pencil drawings in notebook on boring school lessons or university's lectures)

People find the image so dark because of my bright monitor, when I drew it I thought that everything was balanced

Hi! I was out on an emergency trip and came back las week. Wow, for being a nano-physicist I think think you're quite of a good artist, huh!
You can try to adjust your screen, if you can't, try to visualise your art in your friends screens, to check if they look very different from your own.
By th e way, you have the guts for digital painting!
