Description Wait, did I say last?

We've got one final piece in the Parodius puzzle and it's another pair of barely clothed ladies. So let's talk about Ultimate Parodius.

Some people might refer to the third game in the series as Ultimate Parodius and I suppose that's acceptable, "Gokujyou" supposedly means "premier" or "first-rate" so "ultimate" kind of fits, but I tend to use "Fantastic" since that also works and the game's English name was Fantastic Journey.
What I'm talking about though is Kyuukyoku Parodius, which translates more accurately as "Ultimate" or even "Final," which is appropriate since it's the final instalment of the Parodius franchise.

Ultimate Parodius is a "drama CD" which is apparently a popular thing in Japan, since Twinbee managed to crank out entire volumes of them and is essentially a radio drama performed by voice actors and sometimes backed by music.

As it happens, all of the music in it is derived from Fantastic Parodius which has always led me to believe that the story occurs around the same time as that game, especially considering the presence of Micheal, Mambo and Koitsu but as the "final instalment" it's just as likely it takes place after all the games.

I can't really tell you what the story is because - and I've mentioned before - I don't speak the language but I do know that it introduces a few new characters. One is Daniel B Cross, a fighter pilot who looks a little like Ace and supposedly pilots Vic Viper, providing more confusion as to whether Vic is sentient or not (maybe both? Making the Twinbee shoes I gave him rather appropriate.)

Then there are Michiru and Mona, the girls who appear in lieu of Hikaru and Akane. Not much is known about them as it seems their reasons for joining the Parodius team were never revealed and a second CD was not made.

Still, they were on the team so I thought they could make an appearance in this series! Since I don't know much about them and what they can do I simply gave them Ran's moveset and at least got some use out of their umbrellas!

Hoho! That would be quite a task! I have had to odd one or two ideas for Parodius stages but I don't have any real plans to draw pictures of them. I'm not even sure how I would format that.

Then again, I probably should work on my environments more and I guess fan art is a good way to get practice!

Is Michiru a reference to Michiru Yamane, who also worked in Konami?

I'm afraid I have no idea! It might be, and I think that would be pretty cool but I can't say with authority either way I'm afraid.

Thank you, kind sir. Try not to notice that one of them is missing a leg. Damn, I spotted that half way through then forgot to rectify it!

Well you don't need to have both legs to look good, so no worries!

I read a review recently that implied that the Parodius series grew into somewhat of a love letter from Konami to themselves!
