Description This beautiful bird grows to about 19 inches.  I took his photo at the wonderful Homosassa Springs in Homosassa, Florida.  The venue is a refuge for all wildlife native to Florida (with the exception of a 56 year old hippopotamus) that has been injured or orphaned in the wilds or not so wilds of Florida.  A few hours well spent.

Lovely bird. Love the shiny green on its wings. Very different to our UK herons which are the grey species.

I know that this is an annoying question to so many people, but I have to ask: What camera do you use? You have some amazing pictures and I can't get my camera to focus on a flower a foot from the lens. >.<

Of course, the camera isn't everything. You obviously know how to use it well!

Well, first thank you I appreciate the compliment.  A month ago I was using a Olympus digital camera.  I had had it for close to 10 years. It was starting to take noticeably worse photos so I decided to get a new camera.  With a little research I discovered a Fujifilm X-S1. The two photos I just put on were with that camera. The photos are definitely sharper and clearer.  You can set the camera up so that you just point and shoot, the camera does all the work, or you can use the camera like a classic style camera setting the F-stop and aperture and all those fun things.  I was lucky enough to purchase it on Ebay at a reduced cost but for the type of camera that it is it is still quite inexpensive compared to others.  If you are serious about taking pictures check it out.

And I know how to use it well because I have been taking photos for over 30 years, not professionally mind you, but always with an interest in taking a very good photo.

Thanks Cathy.  It is a wonderful place if not also a little sad.  Remember all the critters are there because they are somehow injured.  It's usually man made related.

That is sad. We have a rescue "zoo", animals that were abused or were illegal to have. The treat the animals great. Bears, donkeys, llamas, monkeys, etc plus dogs and cats. That is were I got my Pepper. She was diagnosed with Cushings disease  and the outlook is not good. I am so upset, I love her so, she is such a great dog. I'm glad you can enjoy this place.

Sorry to hear about Pepper.  I had a dog as a kid, she ended up dying at 7 of cancer.  June had a dog that lived for years and years.  When she died she was blind, deaf, and could barely walk.  This is why we don't have pets. I hope the best for you and Pepper.
