This is among the last weapons ever designed be personally wielded by a human, as automation had taken over every aspect of life of the Solar System, including combat. In the late 21st century, it had been a century since the study of cybernetics (in the original sense) became the focus of scientific attention. Bio-inspired cognitive algorithms shoved into mechanical bodies, or bots, had been around for nearly as long. Some of the oldest bots - century old combines, from the Union colonization of Venus - were becoming undone. They began to respond to fewer commands, their minds began to wander. Soon, Coalition mining bots on Titan began to experience similar "degradation". They weren't aggressive, but they also were no longer as interested in following orders, which was unheard of until this point. A secret international task force was formed to study and solve this problem. They didn't get anywhere before the Month of Madness extinguished all human life in the Solar System - but they were able to come up with a theory: after decades of recorded experience and learning, the bots' minds progressed enough to experience the beginnings of consciousness. This relic is a DYNATEK 1, a device created to incapacitate these rogue bots by uploading a piece of malicious software directly to the bot's artificial mind. And most importantly, it requires the insertion of a human authorization chip to operate.
