When I look at this picture, I see a young Asian girl who just had a bad experience with an adult just moments ago. She might have been punished by her parent(s), or she is being held some where against her will. But although she had some moments of suffering, she has this look of determination to either not do something again or she will wait to get older so that she can change something. She's not dwelling on the bad, but she learned the lesson behind it; it's also as if she just learned or realized something. The way that it was painted to me suggests that the painter was looking back to a distant childhood memory that is incomplete or foggy. The purple color scheme to me suggests that the painter has an appreciation for that time of suffering or being scared.
