I think his may be my favorite of all your tarot cards to date! The bright colors of the upper corner almost belie the meaning of the card. And that marble is beautiful!

It seems to me that the subject of the artwork is the girl, but the brilliance and size of the stained glass, despite having only half of it shown in the image, pushes the girl into the shadows, fantastic way of interpreting the card's meaning. Truly beautiful

Wow! I absolutely love this. The window is amazing. I like the swirly bird thing (for lack of a better term) a lot. Every time I scroll back up to look at the picture I notice something that I didn't see before. The little details add so much to your work, which is already amazing. Anyways, another one of your paintings goes to my fav list!

Amazing... better than I'd hoped, very beautiful. A wonderful blending of soft and subtle colors with bold. Somehow it does not feel off-balance at all, having some very strong colors and some that are not. The despair of the figure remains clearly evident, and the muted colors chosen for her are most fitting for the meaning of the card as stated. I have worked with stained glass, and the treatment you've given the window is wonderful. Only a very few bits of it would have had to be painted onto the glass, rather than be pieced together like most of it could well be. Love it! Excellent throughout the whole of it.

Stunning work, and I wait eagerly the rest of the set.

Thank you for the comments about the glass! I've not worked with stained glass myself, but whenever I draw it I try to think of what logically would work, with a few bits of artistic license.

Catgoyle In reply to puimun [2006-06-14 08:27:57 +0000 UTC]

(smiles, blushing) I'm no expert with glass, but I did learn the basics of how to cut and piece it. A master would be able to piece together most of what you show, but the "floating" pieces, like the reddish heart in the field of gold near the bottom edge of the window would have to be painted on, as also a couple of small circles that are also floating would need to be. It's lovely, and since glass-painting has been part of stained glass for centuries. The stained glass in churces, with the faces of saints are painted on, with the colors baked into the glass. For the ones that could be pieced... the more acute the angle, the more expert you'd need to be to manage to not break the thin finger of glass. Curved pieces that are also thin... would only be possible by an adept.

Like your own work. You are =very= adept.

Fits how I am feeling right now... at least everything except "spiritual poverty" for the most part.
Great work as always. I can't wait until this is published, as I will do my best to be one of your patrons!

wondeful, as usual. I love the way you equilibrated the composition with the two circles, but still the girl seems to be secluded.

I've had you on watch (that sounds awful) for a long time now but I very rarely comment and I should. I think you produce some of the most beautiful illustration artwork I have seen since the classics of Nielsen, Outhwaite, Rackham and a few others that spring to mind.

I will comment from now on and I have to also say that as soon as the tarot are available I will buy a pack.

Thanks for giving me so much viewing pleasure.

Well it's beautiful, but like you need another peson to tell you that. By now you must know!

I'm looking at the picture and thinking about the meaning and I'm noticing I'm reading some things into it that may and may not be intentional, so I was wondering about them.

Well first off I'd interperate the large colorful sphere as spiritual enlightenment (or whatever term you want to use for such things). I find it a nice tough that the figure is also in the sphere.

But then I notice the animals all coming toward the figure. Not very isolated is she? But she doesn't think of it that way because they're just animals. Actually animals do tend to flock to people when they're feeling like that. Odd isn't it?

Anyways I'm OK with the lizard being going towards her and just being unnoticed. It's outside of her sphere. But the butterfly is actually inside her sphere, close enough to touch. Of course a butterfly has great symbolism of transition and hope and all of that. This butterfly also has the same bright warm colors you see in the sphere. So I could see it as being connected to that sphere, perhaps a symbol of the way to attain that great spiritual place. . . and if that's the case our figure is withing a hand's reach away from the goal, but is too busy moping about to notice,

What did you intend to express with these symbols?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

puimun In reply to Cedar-Lea [2006-06-13 17:23:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you've got it right. The butterfly is often a symbol of the soul or the spirit, and it is within reach of her, if she were to just lift her fingers. But she doesn't notice at all, so caught up in her own inner turmoil.
