Description Just more character concept art, this one is a witch. Would've been a helluva lot easier to finish if I could just leave those damn filters in Photoshop alone..

Your style's beginning to remind me of that of Thomas Canty. Like her rendering a lot, though the color seems kind of flat.

I do not know this Thomas Canty. You may have a point on the color...but is it the lack of contrast in the shadow, or the scheme itself? I may need to dink on it summore..

evanjensen In reply to Punchinello-Punch [2006-01-10 05:47:38 +0000 UTC]

It is a very green-hued scheme, but I think it's the overall lack of contrast. Her torso has a nice shadow along the left arm... but that's not showing up anywhere else. To drink and commune with the learning faery!

Oh, and he's a cover artist for a few books here and there... um... the titles don't come to mind. google, maybe. ; )

Well the whole project is focused around green so I suppose it's appropriate. I agree about the contrast. There's a significant lack of dynamic light. dammit.

I will look up this artist though. : )

Young Fox. I dig it. : )
I guess that would make you...

...

nevermind.

I have to remind myself to be happy with past art, that way I can track my improvement. There's a lot of things I would like to fix about Nine Dragons...mishapen heads of peasant folk would be one. XP
Although, I think Sandman art is cool. Hell, I still do those furries once in a while. And if Carnival does get published I will go totally giddy. In the mean time, it looks like I am back in costume phase...bleh.

evanjensen In reply to Punchinello-Punch [2006-01-30 07:50:28 +0000 UTC]

*grins* Fauns are furries, after a fashion. Myth is full of them, so i don't see the issue... except when they become weird identity neuroses, me doth suppose.

...So, I'd be whatnow? is your brain in a drought, miss seaton? Well, if you need something to fill the gap, the gaelic meaning of my name is "Young Warrior", or "Swift" depending on where to trace it.

Costumes for plays or for fun?

Punchinello-Punch In reply to evanjensen [2006-02-01 07:28:54 +0000 UTC]

Fauns are the ancient world's equivalent to a furry. Yeah, I can buy that. Anyway I like "Swifty".
I am building costumes for the musical. They are doing 'Once On This Island' this year.
In good ol' Wonder Bread Idaho. It should be fun. : )

evanjensen In reply to Punchinello-Punch [2006-02-01 07:57:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes. But so're centaurs, mermaids, werewolves, et al... ad nauseum. They're a decent, respectable part of myth, so it's ok. ; ) I'm "Swifty" now? Is this going to be a lingering epithet? *winces*

Oh, that sounds interesting. Don't know many plays, so I've never heard of that'n, but Idahodians can do it! You can dooo eeet!

You got it. And you know that I'm gonna beat that dead horse as long as I can. Swifty.

It's a Stephen Flaherty musical, and it's pretty sweet. Basically it's Hans Christian Andersen's 'Little Mermaid' set in the Carribbean. Except, when the girl dies in the end, she turns into a tree rather than sea foam. It's also a biting comment on racism and class, we always try to push the envelope with our little theatre program. : )

evanjensen In reply to Punchinello-Punch [2006-02-02 07:34:37 +0000 UTC]

Aw, that sounds nifty! So it's "Little Mermaid", and that greek myth about the nymph and the satyr and the river god. I see! Wish I might see it performed.

*smacks horse to make sure it's dead* Well, ok, guess it gave up the ghostie.

Yes, the music is really beautiful. I might upload pictures of the costumes, they're just caribbean peasant costumes, but some of them are kind of cool. The gods came out really nice. Especially Papa Ge, the God o' Death. I'd send you a video tape, post production, if I can. But, often our tapes are kind of crummy. Plus, I think that might be a violation of copyright. 0_o'

evanjensen In reply to Punchinello-Punch [2006-02-05 07:44:03 +0000 UTC]

How could it be? You're not making money off the tape. And I won't. I don't do that sort of nonsense. ; p I'd reaaaaally like to see it if the tape is readable... *puppy eyes*

However, smack me for a loop, that's AWESOME that you have the voudoun gods. I didn't even connect the african diaspora dots. Papa Legba the Great Serpent is pretty neat, too. Papa Ge, he's also called Baron Samedi... and I will end up looking like a pirate version of him during Mardi Gras. *sigh*

Heh. I'm not making any money. Period. Except the pittance I get from working retail. But if the tape is good, I will send one. : )

I do LOVE the cultural aspect of this musical. A pirate version of Baron Samedi??

Yah. We are to dress up at Pirates for the parades, and my outfit ended up being black with a bit of purple in it. The colors of the Lord of the Graveyard.

; ) So thank you. I look forward to hearing about it at least. When's it go on?

Nutrisweet is so unhealthy. Use honey. The sugar most easily and efficiently absorbed by the body.

Good ol' costume history my friend! There's some medieval inspirations, a little Bysantium in the embellishments, and a bit of Turkish, just to make it a little more exotic. I hope it's a look that will carry through the rest of the project. : )
