Maki is a Siamese Fighting Fish Woman. Her father was a Mer, and her mother a Human.
She is also a hybrid, like Yuji. But her Mer genes were more dominant than Yuji's. Fish people will always have gills, but anything else is optional and depends on how strong the Mer genes come through. Mai is less fish than Maki.
Nobara is a normal human. They are co-workers, and they met at a coffee shop. They are dating for a long time already.
Maki's fins are very sensitive, and nobody but Nobara is allowed to touch them. Because of them, she has to wear back-free clothing. It's especially hard in the winter. During winter, she usually folds her fins as tightly as possible (which does hurt a little) and she tucks them under large winter coats. If Maki gets excited, her fins flap around.
Unlike Mer folk, who are always intersex, Maki is not. Later on, Maki and Nobara adopt a Mer baby that has lost her mother to the Kraken. (An enemy of most Mers in this specific area.)

Oh well, I like Nobara x Maki (Makibara? Is that the ship name?) And I like both of them very much. (Even though it took some time with Nobara.) I definitely want to draw more with them.
I chose Maki's eye and hair color from the Manga (somewhat) because it looks cooler. I also wanted to include the scars, even though it's just the scales. (I have not read the manga, so I don't know what happened to her.)
