Description I really really REALLY wanted to draw curly/wavy hair.. So I made this chick up and drew her XD

I'm also trying to improve in colouring digitally, and I'm actually pretty happy with how this turned out :3 Let me know what you think!

Also also, I think I'm gonna start a webcomic off of her, so if you have any suggestions of a name for her, please comment!

The colors are beautiful! I'm still trying to figure out how to color digitally. I love the detail work of the hair color, you did a wonderful job in this!

Thanks very much! Yeah, I think we're in the same boat. I'm still figuring things out about colour in general, since I used to only draw in normal pencil for the longest time XD Thank you for your kind words!

I think that the hair Could be more curly to be honest, but its of course relative how curly should look

The line-art is simple, brush-like. its a good thing that the lines are not entirely black. it gives a more fluent feeling to the piece.

colour choice is also good and smooth, the "texture" of the shirt is hard to see sort of.

There is not a lot of shading, but it still gives that look, that makes it special. Shadows would be nice though...

Anotomy wise... i am not so sure, but to me it looks... long necked... it might just be me, seeing it wrong.

I suggest the name, Caroline... it reminds me of the word "curls"...

Oh and keep up the good work!

-Gamal.

Thanks very much for the kind words, and for the critique! I agree with you about it needing more shadows, so I am going to go back and deal with that. I'm pretty new to colouring things digitally, and I tend to be hesitant XD

I like the name Caroline! That might just be it! Thanks!

This is a very simple and elegant portrait. Everything about the colours and lighting just seem to bring out that soft feel to the whole portrait, including the girl herself.

The hair (which looks like the main focus in this piece) is also nicely done, but I suggest you try to add more details, and try to darken some parts of it (the strands hidden behind one another) and lighten the top-most and exposed strands. Also, try adding more shadows on the girl's face and body. Might I suggest picturing a light source next to the girl; it really helps when trying to figure out which parts should be lighter (where the light hits) and which should be darker (where the light doesn't reach/ shadows). Or you could use a lighting reference (even your own portrait in front of a mirror and next to a light source may help).

Her lips are a tad too darkly outlined; making the outline less darker or reducing the thickness should fix that, and if you'd like to add more texture to her shirt, you could try using textured brushes (easily accessible and download-able right here on dA), and not forgetting adding shadows to her shirt as well.

I really loved the overall feel to this; brings a simply sweet and elegant mood, and that's just what it needed.

Thanks very much for the thoughtful comment! I agree about the shading and detail of the hair, I definitely need to work on it. I see what you mean about the lip outlines and need to be lightened up or thinner. I'm not terribly good at doing textures with clothes in colour, so I'll check out the texture brushes. I actually didn't know that there were some on dA that were downloadable, so thanks! XD

Again, thanks for the thoughtful and helpful comment

Hi dear, I received your note and I'll try do my best.

She's very serene in this picture, I think it is thinking in something, perhpas about a dream she had?
The background match a lot with her even with her shirt or dress which have the colour of hope... yes she have hope that her dream will be real in a near future.
You know... she look likes a Irish woman!
Nice work and try get better!

Hi there! I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by note, I don't remember sending you one o_O

Thanks very much for the kind words they're very helpful in helping me create her more as a character rather than some random face.

Oh, my, it's so pretty! It has a lovely nostalgia air I must say the same as above, the hair migth need some extra shading...And the background needs something darker too, but otherwise is a wery exelent work! I thnk that the name Paula may be cute, excuse me...

She looks marvelous! You did a great job!

Also, she looks very pagan, or Irish to me, so maybe something along those lines for a name? It doesn't have to be some unpronounceable Gaelic name, though

Most of the shading looks just right. Only her hair seems to have less shadowing than the other parts. I'm not entirely sure where to add them, though what comes to mind would be more shadow near the skin and more near the back of her head. That can be a gradual shading, to make it less "flat". Shading is a pain! But I think you got the waviness right as well as the striations in the hair that lets us know there are individual strands in there. I think you have achieved that effect very well

Thanks very much for such a helpful comment I really appreciate it. I still need to get the hang of shading in colour properly. For some reason, it's always been easier for me to shade things in normal pencil rather than on the computer, and easier to shade in black and white rather than in colour.
^^ Still learning, but I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.
