When I finished Bastion a week or two ago, I just -had- to model the little intro pic with Kid sitting on a rock, cuz I liked it a lot. Been working on it on and off since then, and now it's done.
Handpainted texture, diffuse only, no lighting.

Is there any way we could get to see a moving perspective? This looks phenomenal and indistinguishable from 2D, but I wonder if the illusion is maintained with motion?

this is AMAZING!!! Your painted textures are so beautiful..its doesn't look 3D at all and that's what I like about it most!
I'm also really excited that you use blender because I use it too...I've never been able to get such clean looking textures...your stuff is super impressive!
Do you use that mode where you paint on the model or do you do it on the texture editor? This is super inspiring I want to try making 2d-looking 3D stuff now!

Well, the model was posed, then the pose was baked in and it was textured as it is. Like, some of the grass is actually painted on his pants.

May I ask, how did you do it? What program, and how did you learn how to use it? It looks as wonderful as it looks hard.

For this one I used Blender for both modeling and painting the texture on. I learned to use the program by looking up various internet tutorials and documentation (the Blender website itself has a lot of it). As for non-technical stuff like, art skills? Well I guess for learning 3D art, if I had to name one thing, I'd say it just really helps to have a 2D art basis to start with.

So you're saying that it doesn't require an insane background in programming and such? I'm a computer science major, and I'm already getting head aches from what I'm learning right now...
Also, I looked up the rest of your stuff, Mass Effect et al were absolutely wonderful, you should consider making one of them animate, that'd be glorious!

Nah, not at all. There's plenty of great video tutorials on the Blender.org website, as well as youtube etc. Most of that is just workflow stuff, remembering hotkeys and such. Most important, IMHO, is art skills.
The ME models are rigged, I guess I could animate one for fun someday, haha.
Blender is absolutely free.

Ahhhh wow.. just simply wow! I love Bastion and it's art style and just wow. i like Topology is real nice. Although i gotta ask. Did you unwrap the entire scene as a single piece or did you unwrap the rock and the hammer seperate to the kid?
