Thank you, glad you like it. It's about as controversial drawing as I've ever presented interestingly enough, but I like it the way it is myself, glad you approve, you have a discerning eye.

Shanen888 In reply to pyrrhite [2009-11-08 23:52:33 +0000 UTC]

What really struck me was the realism but it is still so simple. well large areas of the same color, i don't know how to explain it, but it looks very cool.

Exactly why I like it myself--. I take few risks with my drawings, and this seemed a little bolder, going just a little past straightforward representation. That's Bold for me.

The horse looks great! well done as usual

not sure about the square patch of grass under him, It might look a bit less weird if it faded out instead of just stopping

pyrrhite In reply to Altheau [2009-11-05 12:55:15 +0000 UTC]

I'm looking at it now and I see what you mean and also what I mean...that's my habit of squaring off and straightening the margins of a drawing, giving it a sharp edge rather like a photograph. I do it pretty often and actually like the look, but I can see where it might look weird to another eye.
What do you think of his hand and back..? Never mind, don't answer that....

Altheau In reply to pyrrhite [2009-11-05 19:44:33 +0000 UTC]

I understand the squareing off of the picture. I do that also. I ment the horizon, thinking about it though I am sure it would look better framed I guess as the picture would then be enclosed and it would look a little bit less like just a square patch under him.

I think the horse is well drawn, and the pose looks natural. It is hard to tell about the details (I am sure it looks a thousand times better in the fleash, and it looks darn good in the pica above) but the only thing I would have done diffrent is to avoid the halter as I think horses look better either fully geared or nakid, but that is a personal choice.

Ah, I see, and that WAS a problem of this piece. There were certainly other ways to solve it, I considered leaving nothing but the shadow for one, but I wanted it more, um, grounded than that. It probably would look more streamlined and possibly even better that way but I do tend toward the unsophisticated in my tastes.
Same goes for the halter, I know what you mean, it's a little like wearing sneakers with your evening gown, or a stained shirt for your Christmas photo, but I like the homeliness of it, plus I LOVE drawing halters, major return for very little investment....
Now, when do we get to see more of those spectacular drawings of yours?

Gret job on the shading, that pose doesn't look all that easy either.

Great job!It looks like a tricky pose to draw considering his upper body is turned at a slight angle while running.I like the way the muscles came out on his hind quarters.

Thanks! Pintos are such fun to draw, they kind of feel like cheating--all that white, empty space...

Haha, yeah but it's really fun to draw all of the pattern's and various colors.
And if you mess up...it's easier to fix!
