Because thorns are not precisely the stereotype of beauty, yet it doesn't look too bad to me , but then I always had a thing for what most people consider ugly...e.g. music, black stuff, skulls, thorns...
This is the first summer in my life that I've seen this flowers, we saw them in North Spain, but those were pink, more pics to come, apparently very rare to see them pink.. and meant to grow in high mountains, but this one is not the one I took in Picos de Europa, this one I took in Norwich, England . Did some research and found the name in English for this is a Blue Thistle, at least it comes like it when you do some google image search!
