Description If you're going to come here to just leave me some nasty comment about how disgusting this plush or myself is you can just keep that crap to yourself. Thanks!

Woah! Suddenly an antho plushy. I've had this pattern "in progress" for a long time now but just completely struggled to figure out how to make the pattern work. But I've learned some things since then so I just scrapped my old design completely and restarted from scratch, and after about a dozen revisions and tests I was able to get it to the point to where I figured I could make a finished plush with it. I still for the most part regard this Twilight as just a prototype test plush, I rushed most things that weren't relevant to the pattern test such as the mane and tail, so I won't pretend that it's my best work ever.

I do plan on making life-size (between 5 and 6 feet) anthro plushies available for commissions very soon, both in a hands/feet version like this and a semi-anthro version with hooves. I expect the latter version to be more popular so that pattern will 100% be made before the next time I open my commissions too although that won't be for awhile. I've already made a handful of changes to the pattern after having made this, and have more changes planned, but because I'm still trying to perfect this pattern, I would really appreciate any constructive criticism you could give me!

- Anthro Twilight is 27" tall
- Made with lilac, midnight blue, fuchsia, and purple Shannon cuddle3 minky
- Eyes, cutie mark, and wings are machine embroidered but with a minky applique eyelid
- Despite the looks, doesn't have any armature or wiring (except for neck support) as I just haven't got around to that stuff yet
- Stuffed lightly and cuddly

I referenced plushies from a lot of makers, BSP included haha. Despite what people think about her I think some of the body shapes are actually pretty decent.

Once again you have outpaced the competition in terms of cuddlability in new designs. Though I do think that have more horse like legs that end in hooves would look better on her, especially if you know how to do hooves better than feet. I really have no dog in this fight as I'm not a hoof or foot guy so I hope both designs work out for you!

Thanks! Yeah this one was pretty tricky to sew, lots of pieces and some little tiny spots that I had to hand sew instead of doing it with my machine. Hoping some of those areas become easier when it's all scaled up a little bit.

Oh wow! Even though I'm not a huge fan of anthro designs (sorry), I think she looks really good.
As always, I really like her head. Sure, the horn is a little bit big, but it might just have something to do with you being used to making bigger sizes?
Eyes, muzzle, ears and smile are just perfect.
I know it's just a matter of taste, but personally, I think her breasts are a little bit too big. But that's probably just me
Also, hands! I'm pretty sure Lyra is super envious! haha. Overall they look really well done to me.
The feet could be a bit more human-like though, and have toes maybe?
I think you've got the overall body shape down just perfect. Limbs, shoulders, waist and hips all look really great!
I realize this is only just a prototype, but I think that a dress that matches her mane would look truly amazing on her.

Like I said, I prefer the quad pony designs so please take my criticisms with a bucket of salt.
You've got some serious skill though, keep it up!

Everyone has their preferences of course, but appreciate it nonetheless
I would have loved to make her some kind of clothes before posting her on here lol but I didn't want this little side project to eat into my time too much as I have commissions to get back to. As I'm not planning on selling this plush or anything maybe when I get some time in the future I will make her a dress. I think that would be cute ^_^

Thanks for your feedback regarding proportions and such though. Its all valuable to me to have more than just my own opinion on things!

runner1 [2018-03-19 16:44:47 +0000 UTC]

First off, I think she looks great.

Now for a bit of critique/questions/suggestions.

I currently have a plush by a different artist that is at least somewhat similar to this. Basically it's more of a life sized cuddle size that can be held in place of a body pillow while sleeping for the most part. The problems I have with that one are that the seams at a few places have popped open, forcing me to either downgrade her to a simple decoration piece laying somewhere or try to resew them myself. I don't think I have done too bad with resewing, but I'm certain it's not very good. So a significant suggestion for you would be to reinforce all seams at all points on the plush. Either by stronger thread or something else that shouldn't break from minor tugging while someone's sleeping.

Another critique/suggestion would be in regards to the chest. I feel that this version is rather large while some might want them even larger. Being able to adjust the size without hurting the quality of the plush itself would be a great thing to work on. Another possibility that could be done with this is even use breast implants to not only give a slight bit of realism but to act as a sort of template/mold to determine sizing and the like.

Now for the horn. I personally feel like it is quite a bit oversized compared to the head. Perhaps shortening and slimming it down a bit would be better. Adding a small bit of either a plastic or metal tubing would help reinforce it as well. It is supposed to be a bone-like material after all. XD

The wings now. You mention rushing a few things, so perhaps these were a bit rushed? The seem a little small and flat to me. A bit more definition would be great. Making them a bit larger and thicker would help. An optional suggestion would be to have an open winged option with durable flexible wiring to allow them to somewhat fold to the side as well.

Now for a big question... are you against doing NSFW stuff with this? Because I'm sure you will be asked about it several times. I'm also not talking about simply visual stuff but also functional as well. With how you have the plush layed out right now, it also seems like there are places for such modifications to go. So I figured I would ask about it.

The hands. The seem a little overstuffed to me. The fingers look to be about the right size but the middle of the hand looks a bit fat. Thinning it out a bit I believe would help. Also, are the fingers individually movable or are they just more cosmetic for the hand shape?

A suggestion on the hands/hooves thing. You said having hands/feet options as well as hooves options. Does that mean basically the same style but with hooves instead of hands/feet at the ends? If so then I feel like that would look a bit off to me. The suggestion would be maybe having the option to keep the hands but have pony styled legs with the reverse joint and hooves as an option. Another suggestion in regards to the hand would be a 3 finger + thumb style. Some artists use that style a lot when making anthro ponies and I think it looks good with them. A little critique would be on the feet. Adding more definition to them and a bit of structure would be ideal. Make them more like real feet instead of vague foot-like shapes. This would allow people to dress them up more and interest several other people in the plush as well.

Now the final questions for ya. What would the price range be on the 5-6 foot versions you mention be? Would any of my suggestions impact pricing if they were implemented (mainly in regards to NSFW options since some artists overcharge for that)? When would these be available to order/commission from you?

qtpony In reply to runner1 [2018-03-19 17:58:35 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man, I really appreciate you going out of your way to give me all this feedback! ^_^ I'll go over all of it here below:

Although popped stitches can happen on any plush, it seems like it's pretty rare on the ones I make as I use a triple stitch on almost all parts of the body, and then on anything that's hand sewn I go over it at least twice, sometimes more than that on like the tail or high stress areas where I can go over them even like 4 times. I do try to make them as durable as I can anyways.

I actually do have a pattern made for multiple breast sizes already. What I'm thinking I'm going to do is just have 2 or maaaybe 3 different sizes available. I did make another test body after this Twilight which had considerably larger breasts which would be the "large" option. I was thinking this one might be the "small" one but if you and other people feel like this one is already on the larger side I would probably either make it a bit smaller or just introduce a third size. Feedback on things like this sure helps as everyone has their own opinions on this! I've heard of talk behind use of silicone but I just have a hard time seeing how to get that to work as I would need it to conform perfectly to the shape which I just don't see happening. Maybe it's something I'll need to look into more though.

Totally agree with you on the horn. I tend to oversize horns, especially with Twilight as I kind of like her with a longer horn even though it's not canon. But even with my preference I still made it too big. Not too terribly concerned with it on this particular plush as like I said I rushed a lot of things like that and the ears too which don't look too great but it just wasn't my focus on getting them perfect. I guess if someone wanted a hard horn I could just stuff it very firmly. first time I've heard of an idea like that though hehe.

I thought the overall size of the wings looked okay, but yeah they are kinda flat due to the style I made. On larger plushies I usually make the 'cap' piece separate and then sewn on top of the rest of the wing which gives it some extra volume. Not on this one though as that takes quite a bit of extra time that I didn't want to spend, and it would have been a little tricky due to the smaller size anyways. Open wings is something I always have available if people want them, but one thing to point out is that they'll sure get in the way of putting clothes on an anthro style plush. You'd probably have to modify a shirt in some way to get it to fit over big wings unless you just fold them up and stick them inside or something. But either way I make them if people want them. I wanted to make open wings for this Twi but didn't due to time constraints. Fully embroidered closed wings are really quick to make in comparison.

I do NSFW modifications yes but I leave further details along with pricing to be discussed only in private if you wanted to send me a note or email about it.

I'm expecting the hand stuffing thing to pose a problem when I try to make the pattern for the life size version that will have individual fingers and what not. It's just the nature of stuffing, it doesn't like sitting flat and will balloon out in all directions which will make the palm of the hand be thicker than the fingers. I have a couple ideas in mind to try to combat this but I'm not sure how well it'll work. I am aware of this issue though. This plush in particular has the 4 fingers stitched together but with a separate thumb due to the small size. The fingers are reaaaally tiny and I don't see how I could possibly stitch between them at this size.

I should have clarified this further as I did have someone else asking the same question. For the semi-anthro version (thats what I'm gonna call it) with the hooves, it's gonna be more akin to a bipedal pony. The legs are going to totally different from this one and will have the proper pony leg anatomy. I don't expect this to be too difficult to make as I'm going to try setting it up so that the whole torso part of my pattern will be interchangable between the two where I only change the legs and arms out. That's the hope anyways hehe. This would mean that the limbs would be interchangable so you could have hands but pony legs if you wanted, like a satyr. Wouldn't be any extra work for me to do at all if I have both of the patterns already made.

Yeah the feet on this one are pretty much without detail. I tried hand stitching in some toes but it didn't look very good so I just seam ripped it back out. I'm going to be doing extensive pattern tests for both the hands and the feet before I make my first life size version of it, with the hope that I can get an actual foot shape with individual toes and such. I'm expecting those to be the hardest part of making these plushies though.

As for pricing, that's something I won't know until I make my first life size version and have all the details figured out. Things like how I'm going to do the armature, how expensive those materials will be and how time consuming it is to rig, and then how difficult the hands and feet will be to make, etc. I'm hoping to price them somewhere around my other life size ponies but I'm expecting it's going to be quite a bit more difficult and time consuming to make. Time frame is going to be several months at least as I still have quite a few commissions going on right now which I really need to get back to. My fiddling around with this pattern set me back longer than it should have already!

You're welcome for the feedback. :3

A couple of little things though to go along with some of these answers.

For the silicone breasts thing I might have an idea. Perhaps make the chest flat to begin with and lay the silicone implant on top so it wouldn't get lost in the stuffing and be easier to keep in place. From there maybe lightly pad the area on top of the implant and potentially add a nipple if desired then lay and stitch the fabric a bit tightly over it. That would allow you to determine the firmness along with size a little easier.

Somewhat on the topic of breasts... while on the anthro/humanlike styles breast placement would be in the chest area, on the pony style that wouldn't really be accurate. Since ponies/horses have their breasts/teats in their crotch area, would that be an option someone could choose instead of the traditional placement on the chest? While they would obviously need to be much smaller in size to account for the location, the shape might also need to be altered if you are going for a more realistic look/style to them as well.

Finally, you think it would be possible to send me a note when you do open up commissions on these? Depending on the price I would certainly be interested in one.

qtpony In reply to runner1 [2018-03-31 04:32:10 +0000 UTC]

Hey, sorry I must have missed your comment here.

The silicone thing kinda just sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth to me I think. Your method might work but it would add a lot of complexity to it, as opposed to just making a pattern shape and sewing it together and that's it. I do plan on having zippers installed in these so I guess if that's something somebody wanted to experiment with they could just try pulling some stuffing out and sticking one of those in there to see how it works. I do like your idea about the crotchtits on the semianthro version though! That's something I'll definitely look into and I'll make that an available option if I have anyone wanting that. I don't think it would be hard to do pattern wise or anything.

I wouldn't rely on me sending you a note when I'm doing that as more likely than not I would forget, but I'll for sure be posting about it on here when I'm ready to make them!

Crotchtits is something I would prefer for a more pony styled lifesized plush. That is with the full pony shape and not just pony parts put onto a humanlike body.
