Description This was a test to see about using grayscale maps as displacement maps in the 3D section of Photoshop. The same grayscale map of multiple squares were used on all of the objects. I added a monotone color to each. Once I had the composition that I felt was somewhat interesting, I added the frame and the lens flare for added interest.

My displacement mapping experiment was a success, but I did not use any reflection maps or complex materials, else the squares might have had more life to them. Sometimes it is good not to do too much in an experiment, as in this one.

You Did A Wonderful, I Wasn't Aware That You Could Create Some Great 3D With PS.

Thank you for the nice comment.

Yes, it is kind of amazing. Each 3D object goes on it's own later. Once loaded, you can edit the 2D maps for the objects: color map (or pattern map), bump map, specular map, reflection map, etc. It open a new image and when you close it, it updates the layer in the original image that it comes from. You also can select polygons on the 3D layer and paint on them directly, although this seems a bit cumbersome to me.Β

You also have tools and menus to "move" the object in the object (rotate, translate and zoom). YOu also can add or remove lights (omni, spot, etc.), You can do the same for a scene (which is a single image or frame).

There may be more capabilities, but these are the ones I remember, and use. WOW!Β

Very kool Danny! Love the texture...it all seems to be made of some kind of cloth!

Thank you so much, Barb!
It is the result of the size of the texture and the application of the image as the material. I kept the shine down to make it looks more matte than glossy.Β

I just made a lot of "white to very dark gray" grayscale squares, and then darkened them to about 80% black. That then became the displacement map for a 3D plane. Voila! Done!
Then I took that plane and used it 4 times to make the 2 layers, and rotated them into place! Β
