What a marvelous portrait! A mysterious expression (what IS she thinking?) but with a glimpse of a smile in the eyes and a moth that seems just ready to whisper something. I can see why you wanted to work with this model again, but your ability to encourage her to this kind of result is laudable.
I particularly like the way that whole lower left quarter points to, and so draws attention to, the face. There is the curve of her back, her arm, and between those two there is the light area that descends from her shoulder blade. The gentle shading of the bone and muscle structure in her back adds character and prevents the arch of the back looking bland. I’ve seen similar poses with part of the breast showing, but that would just be a distraction here (as well as possibly inappropriate for the model).
I’m assuming this is a natural light shot. It would have been a mistake to use a studio-style backdrop light to get more separation at the top & back of the head. Your interpretation is much more subtle, and that flash of light-toned hair over her ear adds an effective framing to the face on the viewer’s left.
I’m less certain about the long hair tresses on the right of the image. I thought at first that you had overdone (to my taste) the hair highlighting in post-processing. But I see from the other shots in this series that the model’s hair is actually like this. Even though my preference is for portraits to be true to the model, to say something about them, rather than be re-engineered in post processing, I might have been tempted to tone it down just a little. Having said that, the effect of her light-toned tresses in one of your other shots in this series (fav.me/d5z4bqk) is dazzling … that is a wonderful shot too.
Thank you for posting this; it is a great image.
