Description
This not so pretty structure is the Coast3D tower, which used to stand on the beach between Egmond and Castricum. It was taken down in 2017 because the thing had broken down and no one wanted to fix it. Besides, the structure wasn't safe anymore. On top of that tower were five cameras. They made images of the beach every 30 minutes and I used those images in my research about aeolian sand transport. I want to turn this into the cover of my thesis, but it has to follow a certain format I'm not really fond of. Let's see how that works out...

This is mostly watercolours, but also some pencilwork and white gel pen. And goodness, why, oh why, does that friggin' tower have to be made out of triangles! Okay, I know why, but there are so many of them! Ugh. And don't get me started on the straight lines. More ugh.

The painting is based on a bunch of photos I took, because no way I'm going to paint that tower from the top of my head! And of course, the sunset and tower did not line up like that in reality. All hail creative freedom. I'm pleasantly surprised how it turned out; watercolours and straight lines are things I just don't understand.
