Description
The Über-Panzer (U.PA) Project is a defense plan by the European Federation (2019-2201 in an alternate timeline) firstly started by Nazi Germany during WWII (1931-1952). The main project consists of using a new, powerful mineral known as Oskarite and massive ammounts of electrical energy provided by nuclear fusion technology (2032) to power giant mechs armed with a wide range of capabilities and weaponry. What the European Federation is expecting to attack them in order to need these kind of massive war machines is still classified, and by the year the fifth U.PA unit (the one shown above) is fully functional and ready to fight (2104), whatever the threat is, it seems to be nearer than ever.

The fifth in the U.PA series is a unique model in between her sister mechs, as it combines a turreted, tank-like design (U.PA Unit 01) and a wheeled, spider-like model (U.PA Unit 04). It is rumored that the high ranks in charge of the whole project fear an inminent attack by whatever it may be, so they rushed this last unit into production and ordered it to stay with the whole series at Gades, the famous city in Southern Spain and home of the Gibraltar Bridge. Like most of her sister models, Unit 05 is powered via an armored electrical cable to one of the several power plug buildings in Gades, which are all connected directly to the city's nuclear fusion power plant, Atlantica I. Unit 05 excels in roadborne mobility and CQ maneuvrability, as well as medium-ranged combat and close combat once the detachable barrel of her main 19cm gun is disposed of. Armed with a special Composite 93-K lance, it can penetrate up to 5m of armored steel or 3m of reinforced concrete using 50% of its total force. Naturally, two humanlike arms give Unit 05 a lot of precision in delicate operations and machinery and weapon usage. As for the main gun, it is a 19 cm MwK.100/L95 cannon with 57 shells in internal racks, backed by a 1.5cm IKA Mark 9 autocannon (2500 rounds) and two MG1990 7,92 mm machine guns (10000 rounds). As for defense systems, Unit 05 counts heavily on mobility to avoid enemy strikes and full-body steel armor, including sections with up to 60cm armor around the cockpit and internal batteries and engine. It also counts with several 6cm smoke grenade launchers and anti-personnel built-in shotguns all over the legs and head, in order to facilitate retreat from danger and defense against light infantry. Once the electrical cord is unplugged, damaged or destroyed, U.PA Unit 05 have a running time of 6 minutes 33 seconds before the internal lilium oskarite turbine consumes the energy stored in the batteries.

The Atlantic Pike or Compound 93-K Long Range Lance is a weapon designed to face armored vehicles and organic objetives with immense offensive power, and other hard targets such as bunkers and ships. The core filament inside the pike that also forms the ball near the sharpest end of it is a mixture of black oskarite, hardened steel and solid compound 93-K, a mysterious human-made iron rumored to be originated from beyond the stars. The MwK.100 main gun have common ammo as HEAT, AP, APHE, HE, HEAT-FS (when using the full-lenght barrel) and HE, ATGM and Shrapnel shots (when using the short-lenght barrel). But the interesting part comes with the EFAO (Expanding Flower Anti-Organic) shell, a special type of ammunition built entirely to fight and damage otherworldy beings, monsters, demigod-like creatures inmune to normal ordnance. Inside the outer flint-stabilized steel shell and the 1mm-thick lead layer, lies a "closed bud" made of compound X-44, a solidified chemical said to devour and consume all that is alive when in contact. Nobody outside of the high ranks of ATLAS (the organization in charge of the U.PA project as of 2104 AD) knows the true nature of X-44, a odorless, organic, soft tissue of a color that does not belongs on Earth that is extracted from unknown sources and worked with in the most secret labs of ATLAS, deep beneath the surface somewhere between the Sahara desert and the Siberian tundra. When penetrating a monster's body, EFAO ammunition inmediately starts corroding its tissues from the inside, resulting in bulbous, cancer-like protuberances appearing in skin and muscle (or whatever the being has) in as little as 30 seconds. In less than 2 minutes severe organ and skin damage is clearly visible, and in 5 minutes or less the movility of the target is compromised. Erratic movement, brain capacity loss, massive hemorrhage and motor control loss happens usually in less than 8 minutes. Complete paralization occurs in 10-15 minutes. Certain death of the target and evaporisation of compound X-44 happens in a range of 15 minutes to 2 hours from first impact. However, these results have been proved only on Signature-class anomalous creatures held captive by ATLAS and the Foundation, so X-44's effectiveness in Atocha-class creatures or higher is yet to be tested.

U.PA Unit 05's pilot is a 16 year old girl, Alister Cruz Vasilev III, a distant descendant of an old noble family long dead, that used to be important in 19th century Russia. Fleeing from 1917's revolution, Alister's ancestors reached first Britain, then Spain, where they blended with the local nobility and even gained some of their older fame as a renewed family until the proclamation of the II Spanish Republic in 1930, when they had to renounce their titles until the return of the parlamentary monarchy imposed by the Allies after the Second World War and the I Spanish Civil War (1949-1953). Alister was born in 2 July 2088, daughter of Gades' finest electrical scientist and a noble-spirited, hardworking researcher at the city's marine biology center. Her mother went MiA in october 2091, when the vessel that transported her and her team to the Mid-Atlantic ridge dissapeared during a strong storm in the middle of the ocean. Her father quickly fell into depression after that, and finally abandoned the city in March 2093, claiming that the Vasilev bloodline was cursed and that it should be terminated in order to avoid bringing more misery to it, never to be seen again. Oddly enough, Alister is the last member of the Vasilev family, as there is no record of other alive descendants, even inside the Spanish nobility.

After her mother's dissapearance and her father's abandonement, Alister was adopted at the age of 5 by ATLAS head Anton Thälmann, as part of a special orphanage recruitment plan to initiate the final section of the U.PA Project. She grew in charge of Monika Ruhl Catedra, Anton's personnel chief and one of the top scientists at the U.PA Project, being raised direcltly by her and a special "family" team hand-assigned to her. Because of this, Alister's personality finds itslef between cold and quiet, a fruit of a troubled early childhood, and pretty outgoing and aggressive, as her experiences at ATLAS and her few friends have saved her from breaking much sooner. Normally she's not too quiet, and in fact will only remain cold when in front of strangers or people she doesn't consider trustworthy. When with friends and known people (except for ATLAS personnel and especially Anton) she'll be more open, cracking jokes here and there and even teasing. It comes without saying, Alister is a strong, sometimes hot-headed, sometimes impulsive girl with access to alien-fighting mechs, so it is not a good idea to make her angry.

Alister counts also with the best of Southern European and Slavic characteristics, including lightweight build, thin facial traits, long black hair, sharp brownish green eyes, and enough alcohol resistance to put the most battle-hardened Cossacks and Tercios Viejos to shame. She's also fluent in Spanish, Russian and English, as she has never lost contact with her noble roots.
