do you ever get an idea so dumb and so awesome that you need to draw it
i made touken danshi of the hf blade and murasama blade (yes that’s spelled correctly ). I tried to make them look less like their owners but that clearly didn’t go very well
HF Blade is impulsive, a “cut first ask later” kind of guy, and preoccupied with justice. He favors power, speed, and directness, and doesn’t like making small talk. He also has a “ripper mode” where he can kill enemies in a single hit, but it tires him out easily. Designwise, I wanted to take a slight detour from the usual Touken Ranbu designs and make something futuristic, but also similarly impractical (hence the pretty much useless armor on both designs). I wanted HF Blade to look lithe, sleek, and clean, like something out of Tron. The original sword design doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles aside from the current, and I wanted the human design to reflect that.
Murasama is a little more laid back, and maintains a friendly demeanor. Even though he tends to go for the flashy or stylish road, don’t be fooled–he’s incredibly powerful in his own right. Typically, he remains loyal to only one master in their lifetime. Designwise, the original sword design is fairly striking, so I wanted to capture some of that charisma in my design. Since the sword itself is a blend of old and new, I went back to the Touken Ranbu roots and gave Murasama a more traditional-looking outfit, with various modern modifications.

I listened to a lot of Sawbones while coloring these; I've found that putting a podcast on makes cleaning up complex sketches less mind-meltingly excruciating. Also, I learned a lot about the history of medicine, so that was cool.

I kind of want to do more of these for the other weapons (looking in particular at Monsoon's dual sai) but I'm making no guarantees at this point lmao
