Description

The Light Fury in httyd 3 on her own was fine, but the more official material we got about her and the more she was talked about by people working on the movie, the less i liked her. In the official art book she's described as "wild, graceful, untamable" but the final product for her design in the movie is the most soft airbrushed squishy baby-faced dragon I've ever seen in this franchise. That's not to say its a bad thing! It's just a weird choice for her character, given her purpose in the narrative. It doesn't help that the rest of her descriptions in the art book talk about how 'hard' it was to make her look like a girrllll dragon. So they had to give her itty bitty feet and wings make her smooth because she's a giiirrrlll dragon and Toothless' love interest and (ugh) 'call to the wild'.

So, I made a pair of redesign headshots.

DESIGN 1: Made the back fin more prominent and wavy this time, made her ear plates longer and made them into kinda-gills, made her skin dolphin smooth, tweaked her facial proportions a bit, and kept the weird eyeshadow because alright sure why not. Based this off of cave axolotls, since Toothless is also based heavily on them, and the Light Fury does come from the Hidden World.

This one is based on what everyone thought the light fury was gonna be - an aquatic, water-based cave dragon! I don't blame people for subscribing to this theory when her design first came out. Her smoothness and fin in place of spikes really made it seem like she was a water fury, but alas, she is not.
