Description Another Half Life quick sketch concept, this time of a fan xen alien.

Another invader from Xen, the Cephalopod is a mobile relative of the Barnacle that actively hunts and ambushes prey. Much like the extinct earth animal group it was named after, the Cephalopod appears boneless and can squeeze into small spaces, either to escape predators or to pounce unsuspecting prey. This ability has allowed it to sneak into Combine controlled spaces to snatch the more docile prey of inhabited urban areas.

Cephalopods have also developed a symbiosis (or debatably a parasitism) of Headcrab zombies, implanting their young into the gashed torso for safe harbor. When the larvae grow, they extend their tendrils to assist the headcrab zombie in catching prey in order to share the meal. Mature Cephalopods will eventually out compete their host, weakening the zombie to a frail state, either forcing the headcrab to abandon the body, or simply leaving when it expires.

Cephalopds can be detected in the vacinity by their hyena laughter like sounds and jittering objects that may contain them.

Looks like an Octopus crossbreed with a Scorpion. Also I bet it would be hard to ambush that creature because it has full 360 vision!

It looks like that cut enemy from the first game, that had a big "brain" like organ and looked a lot like an oversized white worm.

So that means that the classic hl1 barnacles are very distantly related to these derived octopus-like creatures? Are there aquatic relatives?
