Ellie was found dying in a bombed out building. She had been terribly mangled and close to death. She was saved by a passing infantry unit and sent back for emergency treatment. Years passed and she worked hard at any job she could get. Eventually she found work on a mercenary ship. The captain took a liking to her and upgraded her cybernetic parts. Ellie was also taught martial arts and combat tactics. In return she became the captain's personal body guard.
