dayuuuum! I didn't know you could color too. The augmented limbs look awesome colored. particularly the wings. its really cool to see the sketch first and then see it colored. anyway nice work!

p.s. Thinking of putting in a background? Dreary metropolitan city perhaps? I think some sort of grey/black dark background would look really awesome against his skin and wings.

This bastard took ages actually X). Each augmented limb took about 2-5 hours each. I could always try and make a background, if I would it would probably be a sort of out of focus one though.

damn seriously? thats a lot of work. Yeah i guess a background would be ALOT of work then.

I have another idea with adam jensen (someone gave it to me), is him punching through a wall, I could do that then.

Vinylmuffins In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-07-31 21:28:21 +0000 UTC]

that would be cool! Like mid punch? As in debris and wall flying through the air around his fist, or like post punch, and you see the aftermath? either way that would be a cool project.

As in broken through the wall (I'm considering making a pony which has a few medical problems under the rubble). Though no neck cracking, too violent

that sounds like it could be really awesome!
ill look forward to it.

don't tell me too much, i still want them to be a surprise. If your taking requests or have the time i could probably think of some cool ideas

What requests madness! I only do hyperexpensive pencil sketches of 50 $ each!

Go ahead what do you suggest? Hell I now have to do a bunch of Redditonie pictures because I want to, but tell me something good and I can always try.

"+- 890 layers" 0_0

Astonishment out of the way, this looks pretty freaking awesome The machinery is so intricately detailed I honestly don't know what to say. If this is you're first vector, then you shall go quite far if you keep it up.

Onward to the critique. I would like to look more in depth at the pic, but I'm about to pass out from lack of sleep. So I'll keep it short. I don't know what program you're using, but posting that would help anyone else who decides to drop by and give a critique. You need to work on your stroke consistency. This is one of the things that will trip up anyone new to vectoring.

The strokes on the back legs are very inconsistent. The ears strokes also need to be evened out.

If you're using photoshop, check back on reddit where you posted your thread for critique. You'll on the right side of the page a series of episodes. They'll lead you to some youtube tutorials on how to do most of the things you need to in photoshop for ponies. If you're using inkscape or illustrator, check for the tutorials folder. It has a well organized list of tutorials for every program that the club uses, and they're made by some of the best vector artists you'll find.

Keep up the good work .

Well for the tools I used photoshop CS5 I believe.

Yeah maintaining a consistent thickness is quite hard, bezier curves are quite the nag to get right.

Admittedly I was a bit lazy with the back legs, as most of it gets obscured by the front ones.
I will check those out, they might even be the ones a friend linked me a while back of a guy who explained how to vector in photoshop.

I did indeed check the MLP vector group when I put this up, I'll take a closer look to it

Also thanks, if I can I would love to make more vectors, but hopefully they don't all drain as much time as this one did hehe.

Also yes this was my first one, glad you like it

My first vector took 14 hours because I had a low quality source but refused to quit on it. I fiddled with it for hours. But at this point, I can usually vector a single pony in 3 to 4 hours with a bit of goofing off included . is probably who did those videos. They're the ones I learned from as well. They're excellent and worth rewatching a few times to get the techniques down.

Yep yep thats totally him (shameful me I haven't finished watching them I definitely should, THEY'RE ON THE LIST DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT).
I could be a bit lazy and not watch all of them due to him more tracing the show's vectors. The one I actually made was a trace of my pencil sketch.

And I can quite agree. I scanned this image, so the res it was on was about 1400x1000, not a lot as you might expect.

Hehe well the body was quite easy, the toughest part were by far the augmentations.

I have more stuff which should be in the works in a while (I'll be gone for like two weeks, but I've written down the ideas).

Kired25 In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-07-04 14:11:37 +0000 UTC]

Something that may help is if you scan the image, then save it as a png. Then resize the image to 3k+ range. It'll retain the image quality and give you plenty of room to work.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Kired25 [2012-07-04 14:15:44 +0000 UTC]

Ahh yes, Png tends to be of better quality than jpg. I actually only rescaled the image when I was done with it heh (I had to do a lot of pixelpummeling here and there)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kired25 In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-07-04 14:27:26 +0000 UTC]

Well I say png not only because it's higher quality, but also because it's a loss-format. It doesn't matter how much you resize the image, there is no quality loss. Bigger the pic when you start vectoring it, the easier it is to vector in most cases.

I too have been in a situation of trying to clean up a hand sketch with photoshop. And most of that time was spent getting stray pixels taken out rather than actual work on the pic.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Kired25 [2012-07-04 14:58:08 +0000 UTC]

Wait, png's behave the same as vectors? Never knew.

Well it technically wasn't cleaning up, it was more colouring my pencil sketch (what a miracle pencils don't work with pixels heh).

Luckily digital works allow for a lot of correction and removal of lines without turning the whole image into a big smear if your eraser is bad.

Kired25 In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-07-04 15:03:13 +0000 UTC]

They work very similar to vectors.

And yes, the digital canvas looks much better than the original when it comes to erasers smears lol.

Heh, well what I usually notice with that FREE SHADOWS!

But eh, I have a few things in my mind which I want to work on (all sketches first though).
