England: Trying to read my newspaper. Now please go away; you're hogging my personal space.

I think the versions you draw are better. I never liked actual Anime style. I have just always thought the show was funny. Never thought much of the animation.

Thanks. It was fun to draw them like that.
It's actually based off *chirart 's versions, when she was briefly into Hetalia. I did like them alot.
Unfortunately no one seemed to like this pic so I never drew them like this again.
Although I do like drawing England like he's a depressed Tom Baker.

True, we have the Olympics to look forward to. On the bright side turns out NI is rocking at the golf... and mindless self destruction.

Our newspapers are mostly full of hysteria, something like: OMG! Japan had a nuclear disaster, we're all going to die!
And the pciture is awesome. Poor England!

In England we have this mind set of constantly depressing ourselves. We activly seek out dissapoint, it's just a thing we do.

Finnish newspapers mainly like to remind us that we exist. If someone outside of Finland mentions our country, it's bound to be in headlines along the lines of:
"Obama's nephew's cleaner once visited Sweden and almost saw Finland"
It's leftovers from the Cold War, I reckon, when there was a constant fear that we might get in trouble and probably invaded if we weren't friendly with everyone.
Do you suppose US actually enjoys annoying UK, or is that just something you like to think?

In Britain we just had this mind set of making ourselves depressed, a thing Comedian Bill Bailey pointed out. 'It's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts; but you didn't even take part; well, it's not the taking part, it's the sense of futile despair'
'Do you suppose US actually enjoys annoying UK, or is that just something you like to think?'
Well, Alfred certainly seems to enjoy annoying Arthur at least. I think that was more what I meant. But at the same time Arthur does like to insult Alfred it seems.
During the George Bush period, we seemed to do a lot of sucking up to America, not that it got us anywhere.
Although when we did visit America, usually at any tourist attractions or shows the actors would always start with a joke 'and if you're British, you can get out'. It was funny the first couple of times, but after the tenth, since it seemed to happen at any live performance thing we went to, it seemed a bit dubious.

Was the joke the implication that the US don't like the British, or that you don't enjoy the same stuff?

I always just thought it was: you're British, so we don't want you want you here.
There are times when I suspect that America thinks that we haven't got over losing the War of Independance.
There's no offical basis for me to believe this, but it just pops up in American cartoons and stuff from time to time. Or it might be more of a gloat to use alongside: 'Well, we saved your ass in World War II'

I guess it's because US owns so much culturally to UK.
And there's the fact that UK has a lot more history to it(ignoring all the history of the pre-European America, which most US people are very willing to), so it's kinda cool, but also sort of bizarre for them.
Many US people like to see their country as this new revolutionary thing with freedom and equality but in a way are jealous of the same tradition and history they are eager to reject. Just see how they have built this mythology around their flag and the founding fathers.
(Of course there is a big difference in the way the country and it's history actually is, and how the people want to see it and what myths they want to build)
So there's this inherent feeling that UK is the parent, but now that US has moved out and become bigger they kinda want to gloat.
