Well in that case I'm in desperate need of you're assistance. I'm currently writing a story about Snivy (feel free to hide this comment if you feel I am advertising) Β and am in desperate need of a partner to help me bring this story to life (business partner not marriage partner.) if you have gotten better then this then I'd love you're assistance in my story telling. I feel it would help take my stories to a new level that I can not reach alone. Β

ok. Let me read the stories you have. now. what exactly would I help you with? I'm no writer. but I'm more then happy to make pictures to go with each chapter. However I would ask for points as payment. nothing to much. I never ask for much. normally less then a dollars worth for pictures. so yeah.

ah....you have only been on here for a month. um... points are money on the site. people can earn money by doing things for others such as art or journal coding. however to get points without doing that you would need to put real money into the site, $1=80 points. but... you are new to the site so Β wouldnt expect you to know that. however I don't do favors. I work for points to keep my subscription up. so I can't afford to just help you out without payment. Especially if I don't know you as a friend. just a fellow artist.

Snivy was my starter too! Serperior is my all-time favorite grass-type, and this is coming from a guy who never uses grass-type creatures! :3 For once the game itself was balanced enough to the point that picking the grass type as your main partner wouldn't turn the whole experience into a logical nightmare, working around your critter's many weaknesses with fallback characters you didn't want to raise or have in your party.
Anyway, this is very well done, not just the artwork, but the choice of pose as well, which is pretty key in Pokemon art; it's the difference between boring or exciting the player, even if it's their favorite creature. (Vaporeon's pose was kinda meh/predictable in Platinum, for instance, but the new animated pose in Black/White made me think how cute the thing was! :3)

you were the first person to ever critique me. thank you so much! yes. it was gonna be a different pose but I ended up picking this because I liked seeing it use that attack the most. I don't know why. maybe because it looks very stuck up attacking without moving its body XD the only issue I have is with the size of the head. but I let it go. I'm sure you read the description. it looks so neat and smooth because I didnt use a tablet. it was all pen tool and path tool. for the most part I didnt use a ref. but I'm so glad you liked it! and yes. pose does mean alot. That's why I made all three starters moving (not to much with the water because... not sure what I could have done XD) but ya know. yes the moving sprites game them more life. and I love how they slow their movement when poisoned or low on HP. you can almost FEEL how weak they get X3

Your welcome! ^_^ Although when I wrote it, I forgot to actually critique it, but any obvious flaws that were visible at the original working resolution disappeared quite nicely at the smaller one you published, so I couldn't find anything wrong with it. xD And yeah, Snivy would have looked awkward doing the vine whip just standing there! Glad you went this pose.
I never saw the head size as a issue though, because, from what I've observed, sometimes the body proportions are a little more lax in animation when it comes to fighting scenes. (Not sure if it's a stylistic thing to do or just minor mistakes on the animator's part.) Wish I could go into more detail, but it's kinda hard for me to explain. xD
Gotta love the path tool! One of GIMP's best features if you ask me. Now that I'm better at using the tool myself, it's not terribly difficult to smoothly ink in an entire character with just one path! It's time-consuming, but sure makes restroking it with thinner/thicker lines easier if I need to later on, even if hundreds of lines make GIMP lag like crap. xD
Also, I'm amazed you barely referred to official artwork while drawing a character totally new to you, I was stuck referring to pictures of Vaporeon and Dawn all the way through my latest experiment piece! (Never drew Vaporeon before, despite it being my favorite creature. :#)
And I loved the extra details GameFreak added to the game too! It was one of the first things I noticed when one of my party members were hypnotized, it's eyes actually closed! Sure blew me away, and it made me feel bad for them when they slowed down; sometimes I'd pull a few risky moves in trainer battles I wanted to end sooner, so they'd get hit pretty hard. xD

RabiesGirl In reply to WhiteLilyDragon [2012-03-06 03:16:43 +0000 UTC]
yes! their eyes close! I almost forgot! it took me a long time before I noticed it. and I love how the camera moves too so you can see their whole body! letting me see how the body moves front and back without having to always refer to the anime for anatomy issues XD and I drew Snivy a few times before this picture happened. I was in love with it. but I only drew this one around the time their english names first came out. I told myself I wouldnt look at them and try and be all shocked and new when playing the game... I failed... but im glad I did XD snivy is pretty simple once you draw it a few times.

WhiteLilyDragon In reply to RabiesGirl [2012-03-06 06:54:08 +0000 UTC]
Haha, I spoiled their english names for myself too! Just had to know. xD And the camera really does take advantage of the 3D space it's in. It changes the angle a lot, which is one more thing, to me, that really kept the experience from being as stiff as Platinum was. (I really liked that game, but jeez the frame-rate was so slow all the time, and there's so little movement it'd kill most analog projectors!) After playing Black version, I might never go back to Platinum! xD
The front and back option was pretty nice too, because I just go into my party's menu and look at the creature from both angles for a quick reference, instead of digging through the pokedex for the sprites. (The crazy thing is I actually completed the Unova dex just from trading with people in GTS Negotiations, almost without even realizing it! :#)
Also, I didn't know you doodled Snivy a few times beforehand, but that's what I always do before drawing a new character anyway. Quick practice sketches always helped prevent me from making the more basic anatomical mistakes later on in serious renderings. Even then I still screw up, just not as badly, and I can actually fix it without starting over! xD

RabiesGirl In reply to WhiteLilyDragon [2012-03-06 14:33:36 +0000 UTC]
yeah. I hate making mistakes that can't be simply fixed. I know it one of my better drawings I screwed up on the breasts of the character, made it too pointed XD and it looked creepy so I needed to fix it... however I already finished the lines, color, and shading/lighting soooo... I had to go through all my path layers and color layer and at this point you know gimp has no folders AND I had well over 100 layers if you count paths... didnt name any of them -_-; so it took me so much longer to fix it then it should have.
π: 0 β©: 1
WhiteLilyDragon In reply to RabiesGirl [2012-03-06 20:06:02 +0000 UTC]
I've been in that position before on paper, lol, colored pencils are near impossible to erase! xD (Totally ruined a Burning Blaze drawing with saggy breasts. :# She doesn't have bra-size to begin with, so that was pretty bad.)
GIMP could really use a folder for the paths. (Maybe they'll do that in version 2.7? Which was delayed until May I think.) Even though I do most of my inks in large, single paths and name them all, I can't realistically do that for every path I use to color/shade in, so the list of paths fill up real fast; I'm in the same boat with you there. xD

RabiesGirl In reply to WhiteLilyDragon [2012-03-06 20:25:11 +0000 UTC]
well I started using sai now because they have folders and less BS that gimp has that I don't use. however Gimp does have some tools I need. so using both does happen. its just. with gimp. because it doesnt have folders. when I take a sai file and bring it over to gimp the folders get locked ;_; even photoshop locks the folders when I try opening a sai file in there ;_; so I often only place everything in a folder after I'm done with EVERYTHING in case I need to use the other stuff.

WhiteLilyDragon In reply to RabiesGirl [2012-03-06 22:23:18 +0000 UTC]
Sai is a pretty nice app, I really liked interface and would have bought a license key for it if it just had some of the tools that GIMP does. I don't have a touchpad, which is mostly what it's optimized for iirc, so it wouldn't have done me much good compared to GIMP anyway. xD
Yeah, and GIMP can be pretty backwards sometimes; their support of the psd format especially is almost intentionally watered down, so anyone can blame the devs directly for doing that purposely. Doesn't Sai allow you to convert a native project file over to Photoshop's? That might help cut down on some of your incompatibility issues between programs. I don't remember my trial of Sai letting me change save stuff to xcf, though, so if GIMP's support for psd sucks too much, you're still stuck at this impasse. D':
It's one reason why I stopped trying to use Artweaver 3 (Free edition.) and GIMP together, there were too many problems with getting stuff to cooperate between the two, alongside error messages from sketchy support of certain file formats. Might have been a bad combination in the first place anyway. xD

RabiesGirl In reply to WhiteLilyDragon [2012-03-06 22:33:21 +0000 UTC]
well... I found a free full version of sai. took me a while to get it working without having to redownload it. but thats because I'm broke. I made a promise to myself and my other friends that when I have the money I will actually buy it. something thats worth searching for for free is worth paying for.
(which is why I often have two of the same movies at home. bootleg and legit.)

WhiteLilyDragon In reply to RabiesGirl [2012-03-07 00:17:49 +0000 UTC]
True, but Sai is pretty cheap compared to Photoshop, (Compare $10 or $15 to $600 + tax. Worth it for commercial use, but not for hobbies if you ask me!) it probably could have waited while you stuck it out with GIMP. xD I try to avoid the shady stuff these days, personally. I got sick of all the rootkits and spyware that comes with searching for those things while clean, open-source software could do what I needed just as well. It didn't matter how careful I was, I always got a nasty backdoor trojan or two on a monthly basis. :# (The only things I catch now are false-alarms from anti-spyware apps! xD)

true. somehow I never got anything though :/ even after getting the sims 3 for free (its still like 60 bloody bucks! they are trying to be cheap so I'mma gonna be cheaper!) but I mean. I still have yet to get anything ^^ doesnt matter now that my pc died on me from slamming it shut anyway -_-;;;
I got my tablet (bamboo create) for 200 and it comes with a simpler version of photoshop elements. its like the same as gimp but has different things. so both together makes like... real photoshop XD but I liked that.

I can blame the sites themselves for infecting me with malware, (mostly the invasive advertisements.) not the materials themselves, so you probably have better sites to resort to than I did. xD
And yeah, $60 just for a game is insane. They're still charging $40 for titles like Pokemon Diamond/Pearl versions too, and how many versions have come out since 2006? A good five I think! xD Don't you just love price-gouging?
I always wait for used copies to crop up for far less, (I once found Metroid Prime for 3 bucks at a used book store, with the case and MP2 demo! It was like five years after the game came out, but still, it worked. ) unless they knock the price down to a reasonable $30 later on. I wouldn't have minded paying that for Pokemon Black either, but I traded in a few older games I didn't like and only had to pay 5 bucks at the counter. So yeah, I can be very frugal when it comes to buying things I don't need. xD
Photoshop Elements isn't too bad, but it's still missing a lot of features; (Hence the "Elements" in its name.) mostly the more advanced tools, so most users wouldn't really notice what's missing right off the bat. At least it was bundled with your tablet, I think Elements was like $90 last time I checked. (Feel free to prove me wrong if that's otherwise now, haven't seen the price tag in several years. xD)

game prices... meh... im still waiting for little big planet 2 to drop enough in price.... but PS5 will be out by that time -_-'
like. I got that micky mouse paint game. and I was really looking forward to it. so I got the collectors addition with the figure and extra disc! for $100 but then... like hardly a month later a new box, not open... BRAND SPANKING NEW! was 60 bucks! so unfair. I figured after a year it would go down like 20 bucks but no... granted the game had no replay value (well.. it did but how replayed it REALLY!) but still. gah.

WhiteLilyDragon In reply to RabiesGirl [2012-03-07 01:47:59 +0000 UTC]
Isn't Littlebigplanet 2 like $30 now? Last time I was at Walmart, that was the price I saw on it. (Or maybe I'm thinking of the downloadable version on the PSN, but it's no fair to charge full retail for something you can't even put on your shelf. :/)
And owch, there are lot of 3DS owners who got just as burned by a sudden price-drop; they'd feel your pain too! That's why I always wait anyway, one TMNT game I wanted once dropped to $40 in just two weeks! Would have been screwed out of twenty extra dollars if I had bought it on a whim. xD
