Description Update for April 13, 2005: A healthy bit of paranoia has prompted me to add a watermark to this image.

Tremorworks project: Simurgh

The Simurgh is a Persian beastie. Pantheon.org tells us the following:

"According to legend, the creature is so old that it has seen the world destroyed three times over. In all that time, Simurgh has learned so much that it is thought to possess the knowledge of all ages."

Chirp!

Thank you. I used mostly traditional reference material for a lot of the early Tremorworks mythological creatures.

Yes, you may color it if you want to. Please include a link back to this black and white drawing when you post your colored version, and also let me know so that I can show off your work!

I love the idea for him and the way you've done his wings and fur. His tail is a bit 'stoney' tho O_o...

It DOES look kind of like a ferret... boy oh boy would this be so wonderful in color! Are you like me? Pretty good at Lineart (well actually, YOU'RE damn good at yours) but you don't know whjere to begin with colors?

Actually... I consider myself a colorist rather than a lineart junkie. You've seen so much black and white work from me lately simply because that's the parameters of this commission. I really do prefer to work in color! The 51 Tremorworks drawings that have eaten up all my spare time have been quite a challenge - and have also allowed me to VASTLY improve my inking style. But the pictures will be applied to the book in black and white/grayscale, so they won't be colored as part of the project. That's something I'm leaving open to anyone who wants to take a stab at it.

I have another couple of long-winded pen and ink projects to complete, but then I hope to get back on speaking terms with my colored pencils. I MISS them!

I don't plan to color the Tremorworks creatures myself due to lack of free time. I have entirely too many pending projects that will need my attention first!

Boy do I wish that I grasped color and it's concepts O.o someday soon.

Very cool. I'd love to see what you could do with a peacock-jackal in clay...

Have you ever read the Xanth series by Piers Anthony? Mr Simurgh makes an appearance there too. Gorgeous detail on the final one here, well done!

I only read a couple of the Xanth series and I liked 'em quite a bit. I didn't have a chance to read the rest, as I was borrowing them from a college pal. The school year had the NERVE to end!

Thank you for your compliment, too!
