Maybe i just don't have the patience with watercolor, but my colors don't stay inside the lines.. this picture is so crisp! (I mean sometimes it looks ok when they're outside the lines and stuff.)

So i've tried to draw a photo before, and then watercolor it and my pen lines dissappear.
So do i draw in pencil, watercolor, and then ink over it?
When do i erase the pencil?
If you could help me out that'd be great.....:

So my process is generally this: I draw in pencil, then ink using crow quill (or brush) and some sort of waterproof ink (usually I use Daler Rowney FW ink but any waterproof ink will do) and then I erase my pencil lines and then I paint over that. My pen lines are usually pretty strong, you can find some of my black and white drawings in my illustration folder to see what my drawings look like before I paint them.

Hope that helps!

thats pretty much what I do, I guess I just paint too heavy over the lines?

What kind of watercolor are you using? Unless you have opaque watercolors they won't cover your ink so it shouldn't ever be a problem.

i think it might have been goache, actually when that problem came up. I played around last night with just watering down some acrylics, and it worked perfectly lol
