Description
The two most common bird species in Kanto, most everyone has trained them at some point or another.I built Pidgey mainly based off of a shrike, besides its voice, it really doesn't strike me as very pigeon-like. I figured a small predatory bird would better suit a species that evolves into huge raptors. It's mostly docile and keeps to itself, only really attacking when it feels threatened.
Spearow here is pretty much a small hawk. Compared to Pidgey, it appears quite flashy, territorial, and aggressive. If a single Spearow can't drive away an annoyance on its own, its entire flock will quickly come to assist it. This one picked out a prime perch on a Lum tree, and seems a bit miffed by the Pidgey landing too close.
In case it isn't obvious, this is an homage to Audubon's birds. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to find the exact painting I based it off of, if you're curious.

This would work especially well for asian-styled rooms, even though they are pokemon they look extremely good!

Wow, that's pidgey. Pidgey's the docile and gentle bird, this one gives me the willies. Though it makes sense for it to look like a hunting bird if that's what it evolves into. I agree that it's no pidgeon, whoever named this line of pokemon was a little kookoo, no pun intended. Though I never saw it as a hunting bird. Though good for making it stay the same type of animal the whole time. One has to remember they're the same species!
As for spearow, I like it. Looks like a hawk. It doesn't have that mean, nasty, hyper squirt quality that spearow usually has, but it looks good, and looks like something I could imagine being a common sight on the fields or perched on telephone poles on the open road, so that's good. I notice you translated its belly into a feather pattern. I'd always pictured it as having a bare belly like a snake, but I don't think that would really fly (in all senses of the word).

I know where you got that idea. Lol, I drew a picture almost exactly like that. (Only mine wasn't cartoonish, Or Colored.) It was the birds out of the book that I drew it from; & detailed in Pencil, too. Great work on the pic' though. I likes it.

When I was drawing it I tried to imagine a Pidgey going all butcher bird on a Caterpie and yeah >__>" That'd be quite a sight for random children to come across in the woods...

Kay... I had a dream last night about a very large, realistic Spearow cleverly nicknamed "Spear", and I completely blame your interpretation of it. I love how you drew both of those birds, and I guess my subconscious mind does, too XP

This is really nice, I love how it is realistic, but you can still tell it is a pokemon, not just a bird. I think thats a fairly hard thing to accomplish, especially when the original pokemon design is so basic with the colours.
