racingwolf In reply to Sycopomp [2011-10-25 01:35:24 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I'm glad you like it so much!
However, the reasons I don't want to post it are that it's a really old story; I wrote it in July 2005, and while I still really like the plot, I wasn't good at the technical aspects of writing back then. I know I have the option to rewrite it, but the story means a lot to me on a personal level and I'm not sure I want to put it up somewhere public where people can review it. I'm kind of a perfectionist, so sharing stories with others is a big deal to me (and therefore I end up sharing very few of them).
If it makes you feel better though, I do have another ChalkZone story in the works, although it has a much different plot than this one. I'm not sure yet if I'll post that new one, but it's a possibility.
I'm really sorry about the story thing, and to be honest if I was completely confident in myself about a rewrite I'd probably do it, since it means a lot to me when people take interest in my stories (and I was especially happy that people would take interest in my ChalkZone one, since not a lot of people know about ChalkZone) but I just don't feel comfortable with putting up a really old story that means so much to me up where it can be reviewed when it's not as 'advanced' in writing style as the ones I write/put up now.

As much as I want to read it, I can sympathize with your situation. Ironically, I'm rereading an old fanfiction of mine in preperation for revamping it completely. I can understand the sort of "ew I did that" reaction many writers have in regards to old works, haha! That aside, especially if it's a very personal story, I hope I didn't sound too forceful.
In the end, I love this picture and the very idea-- I really wish I could read the story, or if just this scene, but I'll probably go take a peek at your other story if you ever decide to post it. (I hope you do, there aren't many well-written Chalkzone fanfictions! I've searched quite a bit the last few hours. My life has recently fallen victim to obsession. Mix in nostalgia and we've got a deadly concoction of addiction brewing!)
Actually, kind of off topic, but I noticed you do plushes. And by the best kind of coincidence, I've been looking for someone who does plushes. I'm wondering though, do you do commissions? c:
Back to the original point of this comment, I still really like the picture. The fade is well-executed without being oppresive, and the scene itself is really engaging. I think Snap's expression and pose are still my favorite parts, though~
π: 0 β©: 1
racingwolf In reply to Sycopomp [2011-10-25 05:05:01 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I mean, I still like reading my old stories and I don't really mind that they aren't well written (as obviously I've improved since then and I don't expect the old ones to be as good as the ones I do now) and I see old stories as showing the progress of how I've improved up to where I am now (so it's no big deal to me if they're poorly written or have silly mistakes, it just shows how I've improved), but I wouldn't want to show those stories to other people as they're, well, old.
And thanks! Well if I do end up posting the new story I'm going to definitely try to draw art for it (well, new art. I do have one old-ish picture on here of a scene from it from around when I first thought of the idea (though it doesn't really reveal any of the plot, it's just a random scene)) so I'd put a link up for people who want to read it when I do. (And, ugh, tell me about it! You have no idea how long I've been searching for a really epic ChalkZone story to read. ChalkZone is my own obsession (along with Pokemon, but there are luckily plenty of stories to read about that!) and I've really, really wanted to read some big epic adventure story. I can't find any. So I guess I have to settle for writing my own.)
Yeah, I do! I don't do commissions right now, though, but maybe sometime. I'm trying to focus on practicing to improve my patterns right now. (I have several unfinished plushies in the works. XD)
And thanks! I really, really want to draw more ChalkZone pictures...I just have horrible art block. :c And thanks! He's my favorite!
Also, just curious, but why did you find this picture/story so interesting? I'm just wondering because it was an idea I thought was really interesting when I thought it up back before I wrote it.

I was going through old cartoon theme songs and came across Chalkzone, which I found extremely amusing-- until I remembered my first experience with it. I was on a trip with my Mom, maybe around ten years old, and in the hotel room (eating Wendy's chicken strips, I swear this memory is seared into my mind) I was flipping through channels. I came across Chalkzone-- the first episode, apparently-- and watched as Bullnerd crept over the seesaw to try and get at Snap. I'd never, ever seen the show before, and was just about falling off the edge of the ground into some sort of abyss in my ANXIETY about what would happen to poor Snap. And just as Bullnerd came within range, the teeter-totter tipped its weight towards the cornered hero and--
my Mom changed the channel to the News. "You've never seen the show, you'll be fine." Cue years of never knowing. Until yesterday. :>
That said, I have an odd tickle when it comes to extremely alarming, distressing situations for some characters I like. Snap is one of them. I love seeing how different writers would interpret his reactions to unexpected or troubling circumstances. Being subject to rain in the real world, that's something I haven't seen and something I would love to read. At points, I tend to just accept that maybe I'm a wee bit sadistic. Alright, fine. But there's a core of legitimate literate curiosity mingled with Snap's involvement, I swear.
As for the plushies, alright. Once you open your commissions, though, I'll be right up there in line. Actually, how much do you charge? :0a
To touch on the topic of old stories, I know how you feel. I still wiggle a bit in discomfort when I recall how proud I was of those pieces, though, especially when I shared them-- and they in turn were actually pretty bad. It makes me wonder if my pride in today's works is misplaced, sob. But regardless, I like the old storylines c: They're fun to think about once in a while, or in my case of late, redo.
Now all of that aside... I've been thinking about a Chalkzone fic. I have quite a few ideas, but I plan on watching the whole series before touching base with anything solid, in fear of unknowing recycling a used story. Heueue :>

racingwolf In reply to Sycopomp [2011-10-25 14:27:40 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that's pretty cool you remember that! And she changed the channel? D: That would give me anxiety too! It's kind of odd, but I think my first experience with ChalkZone was a little similar...sort of. The first one I saw was the episode (I think the fourth) where it showed how Rudy first took Penny into ChalkZone. I remember I wasn't even paying attention to it at first (it was just on the TV and I was playing with some toys) and I happened to glance up at the part where Snap pushed Rudy and Penny out of the way of that biker's motorcycle-and got run over himself. I then became totally focused on the episode because I like, LOVE it when characters sacrifice themselves for others like that, and there was the whole danger factor. After that I watched the others (that were released at the time) as they came on and grew to love the show.
Wow, really? I totally do too! Especially with characters I REALLY, REALLY love. Snap is one of mine as well. I mean, I really love the whole danger/suspense factor of those sorts of things. The whole "oh crap what's going to happen next?!" feeling. And yeah, I love writing danger scenes in stories. My ChalkZone story I'm planning has a lot of them. And I totally understand how you feel. Writing that story (the old, 2005 one this picture is about) I remember one of the main themes/factors/whatever you call it when thinking up the story was all these dangerous situations with real world water that could happen. (Well, that, and the fact that they have two or three days tops to find their way back to ChalkZone before Snap dehydrates to death). So there was that feeling throughout the story that they were REALLY in trouble, and they NEED to solve that problem. I totally understand what you mean. I mean, I definitely want the characters to have a happy ending at the ends of their stories (which is why I was always troubled and still am of the one ChalkZone short that ends with Snap getting beat up...then it's over. We never see what happens and it's not a happy ending), they just usually have to go through a lot of danger to get there. I tend to think of it as me recording down situations that actually happened to them (as if they were real) rather than me being this person making all the bad things happen to them. XD
Okay! Well, I'm not quite sure yet. It would depend on the type of plushie and the material. I'm gonna have to practice a lot first and see how hard certain things are to make. XD
Nah, you shouldn't feel bad about them! I went through a short period of time where I felt ashamed of my old writing, but then I realized that was silly. They were the best I could do for the time they were written, and advanced compared to my even older stories. It's a process of improvement, not something that should be judged by our level of skill now. I feel no shame in loving my old stories. They're what got me to where I am now, after all!
Oh, really? That's awesome! Be sure to tell me if you decide to post it! I'd love to read it!

Yeah, she did :C It drove me nuts all night. Actually, for about a week after that, I couldn't stop wondering. I haven't seen the fourth episode yet-- I'm donwloading them all and, coincidentally, the fourth is my next conquest!-- but I can see that as being a huge attention-catcher. Wow.
Ahaha, yes! :> I enjoy happy endings too, but the danger, suffering and suspense that it takes to get there just makes it so much sweeter-- especially if the process is really, how to put it... mean.
Ahh, I hate cliffhangers like that, especially in cartoons. "THIS HAPPENED. What happened after this? WHO KNOWS, NEXT EPISODE, we never refer to it again." Bwah drives me absolutely batty. I love continuation and flow in a show, and stuff like that really bothers me. I guess that leaves more to the imagination though, even if I wished it happened less often. I don't want it to be left up to speculation, I want to know what happened. >:I
Makes sense. I know that some people charge up the butt for stuff like plushies, but I've been finding myself in desperate need of a Snap to snuggle while I sleep. I have so many plushies as it is, but a Snap-- man oh man that would just be the best dream come true. >w<
I get what you're saying. I guess, reading back, I'm a little antsy about the stories that I thought were really creative, but executed poorly-- or if the story itself wasn't as witty as I thought it was. It makes me wonder if my present self won't be ridiculed by my future self for what I consider now to be "original" muses. But that's really pessimistic of me, haha! I don't think about it too often, either way :> I trek onward, speedbumps be damned, and sometimes I glance in that rearview mirror for motivation or assurance that yes, I've come quite a ways and success is an option.
I've been working out the kinks, but I really think I'm gonna write this. Actually, I wouldn't mind having someone to run ideas by, if you're interested. I like having people to talk to about shows I love and the like, and-- well, a few friends of mine love Chalkzone, but not qutie to the obsessive degree that I find myself subject to. That, and you sound like a cool dude nonetheless :D
-- To answer your other question, YEP. I just searched "Chalkzone" in dA and came across it among the first few pages. :>

racingwolf In reply to Sycopomp [2011-10-26 03:42:11 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that would be really frustrating. DX I remember a few shows or movies I saw when I was little that I never saw the end of. I've been trying to track them all down and some are really obscure. I've found most of them though.
Yes! And yeah, I love that too! I think part of what I love about it (besides the suspense) is seeing them facing all these bad things...and eventually overcoming it. Plus danger is just so fun to write/read! I totally agree. It makes the happy ending feel more happy when they finally triumph and get there, you know? Especially if whatever they went through was really difficult. I know! And I don't get why it would end like that. It's so incomplete. I'm like that too! I don't like not knowing, even if I could make up my own story. I make up my own stories anyway! Tell me what happened! Argh! DX
Yeah, I really want to commission some plushies from people...I just don't have enough money yet. I understand why they'd charge a lot though (being a plushie maker myself, I know how much work goes into these things!) and I hope someday I'll be able to get some customs from others of my characters/favorite characters from things. And I REALLY want to make a Snap plushie for myself and have for a LONG time. Maybe, once I finish my long list of in-progress plushies, I'll try and make a pattern for one and see how it turns out. I totally want one too!
I don't think it would be like that...I used to worry about the same thing myself, actually. But I found that it didn't happen; I was actually much more relaxed about how I viewed my old stories. Even if they had plotholes or didn't make a lot of sense, I still really liked the ideas and they were fun to read. And yes, it's always good to practice!
That's so exciting! I've been wanting for so long to read a ChalkZone story I would like, and you sound like you're a lot like me when it comes to writing stories, with the danger fascination and all. I'm sure any story you write will be really exciting! And I'd love to hear your ideas/help you with plot stuff if you want! Maybe it'll give me some motivation to write mine, too (I love talking about ChalkZone and it always inspires me.) My main problem is writing the beginning five chapters or so...it's all messed up right now and I'm not sure how to write things. But once I get past that...it'll be the start of the big adventure plot I'm looking so forward to writing. Yeah, same here. I only have one friend that likes to talk about ChalkZone (and actually, she's in the process of writing a ChalkZone story too!) Haha, I'm a girl, but thanks! XD
Oh, that's cool! I didn't think my picture would be on one of the first pages. XD
