(So my friends and have been talking my ear off about this group they're in and wanting me to join, and finally I got some sort of inspiration for a character. )

Witch Student

Motif: Green thumb/Thorns She can get any plant to grow where she wants it to, and can in a pinch make plant matter sprout thorns.

Nika has a green thumb. Because of her mother's genes and influence she can get plants to grow where and when she wants. And did so wherever they had to move for a job her father had to make sure they had enough food a lot of the time. She still has to care for them and provide them everything they would regularly need to survive and thrive though. It's not a free pass on the natural order of things. Friends and family have often suggested she open a botanical garden instead of her other ambitions.

Her specialty though is to make plant matter sprout thorns. Which includes her hair since it is plant matter. When it's her hair it's an easy thing to do and she can do that a few times a day if desired. But if she say, wants to do so to a branch she picks up; she has to actually imbue it with a bit of her witch power. Seemingly giving it life for a brief moment to allow her to make it sprout thorns. Nika's adrenaline must be running high, i.e she must be in combat/training, and must have soaked up enough sun/moonlight beforehand to do so. Once out of combat and calmed down Nika is very lethargic and must sleep for about a half a day and eat massive amounts of food/soak up lots of light to recharge herself. She can be rather crabby during these times. The drain on her is a little less if the plant material usually has thorns in life. I.e Roses, citrus branches gone wild etc. Nika can do this only on one item per time and it can't be more than a yard in length.

Nika is confident. She knows what she can do and has made it thus far because of hard work. She also knows how pretty she is and is not afraid to show it. She preens and likes to keep clean but she is not above getting her hands dirty. At first glance one might take her for one of those pretty faced mean girls you hear tell of but she really isn't. She likes people, likes making acquaintances and hardly feels awkward in a crowd. If asked she will take it upon herself to help a person out. Especially if you are one of her friends (i.e her 'specials'). She would do anything for you. Only her 'specials get to call her Nika. To anyone else she is Veronika Markovna.

If however you get on her bad side you will find you're in for one heck of a fight. She is not afraid to be the first to stomp an enemy and is more than happy to tell someone off. Merciless in battle and doesn't hesitate to get right into the thick of things. Defeating her enemies in a lovely array of kicks and twirls that she makes darn sure are as captivating as they are deadly. Nika loves compliments. She takes her jobs and area of study very seriously but is not above flirting, even slightly with her opponents if she feels like it. In the day to day she flirts almost to distraction and never passes up an opportunity to flirt.

The flirting is harmless and she will tone it down if asked.

Backstory: Veronika was the first of 3 born to Zoya and a kind but very gullible man named Markos who had no idea that his lovely wife had a hidden agenda when they married. Instead of the sweet woman he thought she was, Zoya was a cunning and evil Witch who was out to bring in a new generation of strong plant-life controlling witches into the world. But her plans were royally foiled when the only child that showed any ability in such things was nowhere near as strong in those magics for what her plans required and was more interested in other things. Veronika could occasionally make plants grow wherever she wanted them to, and could make them sprout the occasional thorn. But these abilities, coupled with her strong will and stark lack of interest in more sinister ambitions forced Zoya to give up her attempts to force the child into the role she desired. Their mother disappeared never to be seen again but not before causing a dramatic mess in the middle of the village involving kishin that none of the family talks about to this day. But was also how it was found out that Nika's Aunt Anya was a Meister.

Marko, left heartbroken and with the care of his three children on his own and facing the stigma of having been foolishly led around by his evil witch wife, and what kind of stigma that might leave on his children, he decided to leave. They moved from their little village to America where some of his family already had gone. Nevada. Their Father chased job after job to support his children and Veronika had to fill in for what her father could not do for herself and the siblings that looked up to her. Harboring a grudge against the woman who broke their hearts and left them as so much trash.

When she was not looking after her younger siblings she was working hard to pursue her first love. Ballet.

Nika was good at it, graceful and light on her feet, it almost came naturally to her, but she also made sure to work hard for it. The one good thing that came from her mother was her desire to excel at those things she wanted. And gained her father's work ethic. Because she spent so much time helping her father take care of her younger siblings it wasn't easy to find time for dance. But she wanted it so much and wanted to show that she would make something of herself. And the time she put into practicing payed off. She was the top of her class and the most promising student, on a fast track to a future as a Prima Ballerina when she grew up. Then her second love came along.

Fighting.
One of her younger siblings started taking a Martial Arts class. It was new and exciting, and something inside her said that was for her too. She never regretted the extra load taken on by taking classes alongside her younger sibling. She threw herself into learning this just as passionately as she did Ballet. Though she had little idea of what use it would be to her in her future. When old enough she got a job working at a local ballet studio to help take some of the financial burden off of her Father and start paying her own way.

It was one morning on her way to work that she was really made aware of the academy; a friend of her's was enrolling. She'd heard about it and had an aunt who was a Meister, but she hadn't given much thought to any of it. At hearing that they hunted bad witches, Nika decided to see what it was all about for herself. For beneath the surface was a deep desire to perhaps find her mother and show the woman what a fool she was for what she had done. And so help her she was going to see to it that she did!
