Description
In the summer of 1588, one hundred and thirty ships carrying 30,000 men set out to conquer England.This is my vision of the glorious moment when the fleet is leaving Lisbon. In the foreground is the flagship San Martin. Ships design is based on reference plans that I could find on net. But its not much there about those spanish galleons of this age. So I must use my imaginationAll is done in photoshop, +wacom, in about 20-30 hours

Nice work, specially with the San MartΓn, (SΓ£o Martinho is the real name, but...) a ship described as big for it's time, the proud of portuguese navy at that time. After many defeats, almost all ships didn't survived, but the SΓ£o Martinho did, like a proof of the portuguese superiority over the spanish in building and mantaining ships. Is sad thinking that Portugal never returned to be the "Ruler of the Seas", but this is amazing when I remenber that if they did, Brazil's independence would be much harder. I you need more pieces of information, there is something in sites of both brazil and portugal. Yes they in Portuguese, the language of CamΓ΅es, but they worth the translation.

The San Martin reminds me a little of the french galleon La Couronne beautiful work by the way.

Hmmmmmm.... I sense some perspectivic errors. In comparizon to all other ships behind, the flagship is too large for the position it is. And the flagship's hull also seems to contain some perspectivic errors, related to the sides and front dimensions: the combination front/side looks too much like a flat wall, not rounded enough. Hope you get the idea based on my poor wording.Β Β

Stunning colors and light, but there is a problem with the flags on top. Those flags should wave according to direction of the wind. Best regards.

Spain was the superpower prior to England, wasn't it? And on their way to wage war, getting about to Ireland, I think, they encountered a large hurricane and it decimated their forces. Am I incorrect? Do tell me and I'll retract all of my nonsense!

What i know is that they had it coming since they stole Portuguese ships among other things.

Ok. Here are the facts:
The Spanish Armada set off from the port of Lisbon, with the intent of picking up the thousands of Spanish soldiers who had been fighting in Nederland, and escorting them across the channel to conquer England. After 2-3 failed attacks by the English, the Armada was sent into disarray after the English cleverly deployed 8 burning ships into the Armada's midst at night. The day after, the Armada were forced to pass Flanders, in France, where they were supposed to escort the 20,000 or so Spanish soldiers to England.With their plan foiled by the Royal English Navy,they had to return back to Spain. They could not turn around, because the English were pursuing them with desperate intent, so the only way for them to return safely home was to loop around Britain and Ireland. It was a long, arduous journey, and many Spanish sailors died of Hunger and Thirst. As the defeated Armada passed Ireland (ON THEIR WAY HOME), they were struck by ferocious storms, devastating the already weary Armada, and destroying hundreds of their ships. CLASS DISMISSED!
