Here's a little tutorial I made, maybe it'll help someone get a little more comfortable with Photoshop.
These are techniques I tend to use when painting on Photoshop.

How do you work the pressure? Mine was working one day and turned off the next? Is there a certian button or something?

Certain brushes already have pressure automatically on. And if you go into the Master Brush Settings, you can set pressure to things like flow, opacity, size of brush, and so on.
Or if you're talking about the tablet pen itself, might be a driver error. It can usually be fixed by restarting. If not, reinstall the drivers.

Usually, but I've managed to get similar effects without using it(my old tablet's pressure would stop working when it was on it's last legs), I just have to lower the opacity and flow a tad more.

With a brush a really low opacity, going over certain parts until it's a gradient.

About your shading technique... Errr.. How did you know which colors to get?

Basic color theory, lighting, and so on. Skin, for example, is slightly transparent. This is why I use purple a lot for my deep shadows, because of the red and blue blood vessels underneath the skin.
Anyway, I suggest taking a gander at [link] , It helped me a lot perhaps it will help you.
