Description The Dark King of Hyrule: Ganondorf Dragmire

"The approaching Shadow, with a cape shrouded in the blood of Hyrule.
It's Hatred reflected upon the twisted appearance of this dark Knight of Evil.
The greed for Power, starving the Blood lust.
With it's fragment of Divine Power, will cover Hyrule in ashes of its's past and Claim the Sacred Power for itself.
This Shadow from ancient times, of origin forgotten, whispered by the name, the name given the Dark King of Hyrule... Ganondorf!"

My first fully completed sculpture.

Made as a Christmas Gift for but is also my interpretation of Ganondorf for the Super Smash Wars Concept [link]

It was all in all a rushed work, and did at times mess it up, making me doubt my ability to actually complete it. But here it is as well as i could pull it of within a 5-6 days time frame.

It's a 1/8 scale figurine of Ganondorf known from the Zelda Series.

The appearance is my own interpretation as it came along while sculpting, so there were no definite design planned initially.

I wanted to give him an unique sword, not as glowing and unusual as the one he possess in Twilight Princess, I rather aimed for a Equivalent opposition to the Master Sword, A foul blade granted by the desire to destroy the sacred bloodlines of the Hero, and Royal Family of Hyrule.
I would mayhaps call it "Blade of Din", though it's not as catchy as Master Sword, so I'll ponder upon a better name.

I drew most inspiration from the Twilight Princess version of him, as it is my favorite presentation of him.
I did however try to bring the realism from the Ocarina of Time version, as the facial structure is more pointed and human like when seen in profile.
The suit design drew most inspiration from the TP version but with the colors taken from the Wind Waker version.

I wanted to give him a full war armor reflecting that from Twilight Princess, and go a little beyond that.
Also time wise, the plot he is a part of is further down the Twilight Princess timeline (If you've caught up on the official timeline you'll know of the divided time/story branches).

Entire figure is of Super Sculpey polymer clay, the blade of the Sword was cut and filed in copper for the sturdiness and metal feel, and the cape pin chains of steel.
Cape of a basic fabric, painted red(was originally blue) and some last minute gold pattern added.

If you found interest in this and read trough it all, I really appreciate it!

It reminds me the Ganondorf from 'Winds' Waker' and 'Twilight Princess'. Cooler than cool!

What would be a good name for that sword..... hrmm.....

Wrathblade, Conquering Edge, Oath of Evil, Sinners' Vengeance, Unyielding Wrath, Hero's Bane.... and that's all for now.

The armor and sword designs really impress me! I also like the Wind Waker colour scheme you chose.

One problem is that Ganondorf's hair is too dark, it should be more Red/Orange, it looks like a dark brown here.

Overall, you did a great job on the sculpture.

What an epic interpretation of Ganondorf! I'm loving every single detail in this piece. Awesome job combining elements from his various appearances throughout the franchise. Also, this would have been a better appearance for Ganondorf in Twilight Princess. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the compliment!

I am sorry to say that this is a one of a kind sculpture I made specially to someone close to me, and therefore it is no longer in my possession and thus not for sale

But if you do desire a Ganondorf figure of high detail, you should keep an eye on "First4Figures" upcoming(still to be fully revealed) Twilight Princess Ganondorf.
Judging from the teaser image they have released, it will be nothing less than awe inspiring!

I know lol I read through a good few of the comments.I wish there was a way you could cast it and use it to make more, but a cast would probably mess up what you have now. Of course that might be something you could do in the future.

Ragaru In reply to imacetra [2012-04-05 02:31:47 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not in my possession anymore, but I am going to be working on another Ganondorf sculpture at the end of May, it was commissioned so the appearance is somewhat unique [link]

At any rate, I do intend to cast a limited number of the sculpture in epoxy, given I successfully manage to complete the process

But at least those will eventually be for sale when completed should there be any interest

But I could always suggest as she is opening for commissions and is a huge Zelda fan and Ganondorf fanatic. Here's an example of what she's currently working on [link]

O.O I don't know why I didn't realize you were the same artist that did the stylized Ganondorf. I so loved that concept. Tavington picked a truly gifted sculptor when she choose you. Your friend seems to be just as talented. Do you know about how much your going to sell the copies for if it works? I don't know if I will be able to afford, but it never hurts to know. Also, I don't know why I haven't added you to my deviant watch yet. Going to do that now. X3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragaru In reply to imacetra [2012-04-06 01:44:05 +0000 UTC]

He he, thank you!
Concerning the eventual castings, I wouldn't charge less than what I'd charge Tavington, so it will not go below $160.. which might be more or less expensive.. always depends on how much one can and would be willing to invest for such a piece.

I much appreciate the Watch, again Thank you!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

imacetra In reply to Ragaru [2012-04-06 04:01:22 +0000 UTC]

Wow! $160 actually sounds affordable. I knew it would be at least in the hundreds because as far as Ganondorf items go, they are few and hard to find. As long as nothing depletes my savings account before the castings are made I would so love to get one. If casting doesn't work out I might have to see if I could get one commissioned. X3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragaru In reply to imacetra [2012-04-06 14:04:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, pricing always depends on the size and style(detail level), and for Tavington's commission, in order to keep the price reasonable, it will be stylized to save time and material (still the price is more of a loss to me due to the somewhat expensive materials.. because, if you take a price in Norway and reduce it by 25% or more, you'd get prices similar to those in the US )
A sculpture such as the Ganondorf I made, would be substantially higher, due to the size, detail level, different materials(such as copper), and tedious painting process.

I do hope the casting works out, due to the fragility of Polymer clay, as when it comes to shipping, you can never be guaranteed it will be handled as carefully as you would like.

Epoxy casting would also allow more dynamic and detailed sculptures in general, as the stronger material would assure a solid construction.

We'll just have to wait and see, but I'll let you know how it's turning out eventually

imacetra In reply to Ragaru [2012-04-06 17:08:45 +0000 UTC]

I know supplies can be very expensive. ^_^; So I understand about the pricing. Wish I had better sculpting skills. Lol.

I noticed the high level of detail you used even before putting armor on him. He was awesome even before he was completed. Epoxy would probably ship better so I hope you figure it out.

Skills comes by as you just start to explore the medium of which you intend to improve in. you just have to aim high and try to work your way there by all the means you've got.. Sometimes it doesn't end as well as you wanted, other times it turns out better than you hoped. And as time progress you will regard the piece that went beyond your hopes and find it to be pretty poor compared to what you have achieved by that time.
So I'll just say, brace the madness!

As it may drive you mad trough your path of errors and success

If I had the time and proper material/equipment I'd make him as detailed as i could, with a plain painted body underneath, armor cast in metal, real clothing for everything, and use an airbrush to get the smoother and more realistic paint application.
I do also intend to make a fully poseable Ganondorf action figure/ action doll or whatever kind of category you'd place an articulated figure with super detailed apparel. Merely as a practice for my personal Projects intended as Stop Motion animations.. but I've got far to many projects going as well as studies and additional mathematics to practice.. so I really haven't had much time letely.. nor will i before summer is at hand

Anyway, thanks for showing such interest, i do appreciate it!

Thanks for the encouragement. I have made convention safe daggers, jewelry, and other props for cosplay, out of Scully, that turn out fairly good, but any attempt at humans or animals turn out cartoony. ^_^ I will keep trying though.

Metal armor would be so awesome. I would lend you my airbrush if I could. I hope you get the time to make one.

Well, realism trough anatomical precision is quite challenging if you don't practice often enough, but if you try to model a pure muscle figure, you get to train yourself in that are and you are forced to start observe and think trough the function of every muscle for each given situation.. you'll often find yourself using the muscular groups you're modeling in order to understand how it all works under the skin.. at least that is something i find useful when it comes to creating humans and creatures with a realistic anatomical foundation.

Indeed it would!
He he, I've already got one... I just haven't invested in an Air compressor yet

Yeah... I don't practice near enough. Maybe I need to finally buy that gray's anatomy book. I am told that helps as well.

It does help to have an air compressor. XP The one I got costed about $75 and came with an airbrush kit. You might find one for cheaper on amazon or ebay.

Gray's anatomy is a textbook made for medical students, but is something my college professor encouraged all his art students to get. It depicts bone structure and muscles in great detail.
