Another old one from 2005. I was taking a ceramics class and the assignment was to make a mask, so I made one that looks like a sockeye salmon because they are so delightfully hideous.There are eyeholes over the gills, which are not very apparent once you put it on. The mask is really comfortable on your face, but too heavy to be very practical so it's mostly just for decoration. I have no idea how big this piece is and I don't have it with me to measure it. My mom currently has this thing. She keeps it on the kitchen table and uses it to bother the cat, terrify the houseguests, and hold the mail (it holds paper napkins during dinner. Who knew a gigantic fishhead would be such a nice centerpiece? I know it's certainly what I like to look at while I eat.)
Unfortunately there's a lot of detail that gets lost in these photos, which makes me sad. Modeling the fishhead is my friend and classmate who was oddly fond of this thing.

Funny thing about salmon though; I've been fishing with my dad during the spawning season yet have never seen a red salmon

Yeah, but it's sockeye we catch... although, we are pretty close to the ocean, maybe their colors change as they migrate further inland

So if I grovel and worship your awesome could you let me filtch your mask design so I can make a sssage dragon mask. This is excellent work, I'd love to try my hand at this

Yeah. It's that sexy banana-shaped curve of their jaw and jagged teeth sticking out out every which way that makes them so darn sexy!! ...to other salmon maybe. They must think we look pretty hideous.
And yes, ugly fish sure do taste great! 8D

It's ceramic. The kind you have to wedge all the bubbles out of and fire in a kiln. I don't know any more about it than that! D: But for making masks, this is a terrible material. It's way too heavy to keep on your face unless you're holding it with one or two hands, and it's breakable. If you want to make a mask like this that you can actually wear, I would recommend doing something like paperclay over a cardboard frame, because that would be light and durable enough to wear.

Well, i thought it should be made of ceramic, since you mentioned it being for a ceramics class, but i couldn't comprehend that it was wearable, since i can imagine how heavy it would be.

Haha, awesome. Just.. awesome.
Some of the things I made in ceramics were about as random as this... not to mention other people's works. It's such a fun class! And it's made even better by the fact that everyone in there is there to have a good time and be creative.
