Alright, so first things first.
This is one of the most effective action pieces i've seen done with a Sonic character drawing to date. The first thing i notice is that you decided to use a "fish-eye" camera lens style (with the ground warping upward) which adds a stunning sense of depth to the image.
The light sources, which are indeed from behind, add this illumination factor that gives both Sonic and Shadow this impressive sense of being underneath the bright sky (yes, the type where the moon is bright and keeps you awake at night).
The Background contrasts well with the rest of the picture, not too vibrant to drown out the characters and with a good color selection to tie the entire scene together without drawing too much attention away from the central focus (shadow & Sonic). The black cloud behind the two gives me the sense that shadow's shoes are indeed rocket powered and are nothing to mess around with, and the expressions between Sonic and Shadow (smile & Frown respectively) give a dynamic sense of drastically different moods while maintaining that burning sense of rivalry that the two share.
My only issue with this image is that it would be cool if you had a larger image size (it seems that 675x645 is a tad small) But I digress. This is an amazing piece of fan art that all shadow and sonic fans can know and love.

The coloring is stunning, you put the shading and highlight in the right place since the light source coming from their back. I love the way you do it :3 The background looks amazing and detailed, too. It's successfully showing the view of modern city in night.
What bugging me, though, is the dust cloud on their feet. It looks more like a black cloud covering the city. You should made it transparent, or not made it in black. Adding few dust clouds in front of their feet would be nice, too.
