Description In school we had a task of making a lock. I had no interest in traditional mechanisms and keys so I somehow ended up getting an idea about a steel card working as a key. It was interesting to design a working and efficient mechanism for that.

The steel card is credit card size so it goes nicely in the wallet.

An inside look to mechanism:

Thats a great idea except for one thing.. with a straight card as a key the entrance to the lock would also have to be straight, correct? well if the entrance for the key is straight then there wont be a need for a key. you could open it with a couple of toothpicks but again you do get credit for originallity

Did you notice the square hole in the key card? The mechanism blocks toothpicks and straight pins as seen in the lower right picture in the inside view: [link]

Oh my gosh, I don't see why this doesn't have more views, favs and comments already.

I'm so very impressed with how intricate, smooth and visually appealing this is. The very fact that you've managed to take metal and fashion a working, nontraditional lock out of it...

Great work.

Thank you so much!
And I thought I had made this in such a hurry that it shows in the outcome.

Thanks!
I've also thought of sandblasting a logo to the key card. Then it'd look nice among the other cards in the wallet.

I think that's a killer idea... just now you need to market so I can get one.
