Description Summary (from Goodreads):

When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy finds out her mother might've been telling the truth. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - and it's one she's not sure if she wants to be a part of.

Review:

SWITCHED is a self published ebook, so I won't really begin to say how many grammatical errors it has. In a way, I wish she could of hired an editor or something. But, let's just focus on the story, shall we? I'm sure if you read the book, you'll see for yourself.

The characters...man the characters. Wendy would come off as a whiny brat at the very beginning of the book, but of course she was just a child...did she change? I don't see much of a change at all. She went from getting kicked out of High school for being a delinquent and moving around with her older brother and Aunt to meeting some random stalker boy and leaving with him to some magical closed off community. Our stalker friend, Finn, is this wishy washy fellow that's emotionless and almost kind to her throughout the beginning but is suddenly calling her a horrid dancer and being really rude about it, mind you. I don't really get him at all, but let's just move on for now. I'm just going to say, all of the characters seem to give me a headache. They yelled at the main character for doing things she didn't know she wasn't suppose to do! She just took it like it was alright to let them chastise her about this or that. And she got kick out of school for fighting??? Okay...right...

This story has so much potential. If only she would of spent a little more time on it, this book would be just plain awesome. There was no development from the characters (I know it's a series, but there should be something to strengthen the character), the characters didn't really have too much of a personality, the story dragged on and on about her love or whatever it is for Finn and details about her 'palace'. The action that finally came, went so fast, all I could think was "that's it?" Amanda Hocking seems like an really cool person, but I wish she would of thought of adding a bit more action and less details about Wendy's love for Finn. I wouldn't have minded if we learned a bit more on the compound, the Trylle (who are trolls), the characters, and the enemy (the Vittra), but no. I didn't learn much of anything.

So overall, I give SWITCHED:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

My reasons are simple. The main character was unlikable. Information was withheld far too long. The Vittra barely had time to shine. However, I believe this book had great potential and I'll be reading the next book in the series to see where Wendy and Finn will go. Let's just hope the second book is better than the first.
