I hope you're getting more color than we are, we were so low on rainfall that everything's going straight to brown

Tripods are a must if you want to shoot at night unless you have a VR lens for your Nikon.
Slow shutter speed shots would also need a tripod.
To get tack sharp images when the light is getting low you need a tripod.
It eliminates camera shake from your hands.
So yes I would recommend one.
