Very odd effect here ... top is direct side view, whereas bottom part with the striking plate has an isometric feel to it. Was the stapler broken? Or did you move it while scanning? Hmm ... head scratcher this one is.

The stapler was sitting on the platen at an angle, so you could actually see more of the striking plate because it was facing dowards by a couple of degrees.
