I know. That was a good dream. For a vampire.
Said vampires die by running water but.... they crossed the river well enough with the bridges

Ahh. Yeah, if you remember earlier on they were arguing about crossing running water and whether or not that would/could kill them. They mention it hasn't happened in a long time, and everyone there has heard something different or nothing at all (basically even the vampires aren't 100% sure what the truth is). Godbrand himself says he's crossed running water in boats (and we see this happen in his memory-dream—he jumps back onto his boat in the river where his fellow Viking vampires are just fine).
So based on that, I'd say that if the running water itself is actually deadly to them in the show, crossing above it on a bridge or in a vessel and not actually touching the water is probably okay and that's why they were fine. And it's important to note that what actually killed all of the vamps that fell from the bridge into the water was because Carmilla had Hector raise the Bishop and had him bless the river, creating a mass of holy water which most definitely IS deadly to them.
That's just talking about the show, though, as in the games, there are a couple of instances concerning water. In Symphony of the Night you have to have an item equipped so Alucard can go into the water without being hurt. In Lament of Innocence, there is a vampire who is locked up in a palace of waterfalls because the water itself is injurious to them (like acid).
