Was a man sent to kill, or a slave?

I love this scene in Bioshock. Not because I enjoyed the aftermath of Jack and Ryan's confrontation, but because you get to see the final developments of Andrew Ryan's character. His death was a tragedy, but it left in it's wake a truly magnificent road for Jack to walk down.

As for Jack, I've just been meaning to draw him anyways. He really doesn't get as much love as he should.

I'm really behind in my Bioshock art. ._.

Anyways, enjoy!

8.12.13 After seeing that this picture is one of the pieces in my gallery that's been gaining popularity I aspired to redo it. So here you guys go. Now Ryan doesn't look so damn creepy like he did before!

I also loved this scene because you can clearly see that Andrew Ryan has the upper hand at all times, but before you confront him Andrew Ryan descends and becomes what he judged and considered the weakest beings all his life: human.

I love when he says that now that he can see Jack face-to-face he realizes that he can't bring himself to raise his hand and kill Jack because looking back on his life Andrew Ryan realizes that all he's got left is his city, he lost everything else even his son, he couldn't protect them, and leaving Jack alive is either his choice to leave the world or his own stepping down to leave Jack to do what he wants with his life.

That's a pretty good way to put it! By far one of the most powerful moments in the Bioshock trilogy.

Indeed, people say that Ryan was soulless and uncaring, to anything other than his city, but just before you face his office, there is a wall full of pictures of what has been happening to Jack meaning that he showed a very deep interest in what really happened to Jack to the point of even obsession.

All the talks he has with Jack may have been his way to confess and confine in Jack his beliefs and his reason for being, showing a sign of trust, maybe even respect. I think in the end, Ryan felt pity for Jack because he was innocent and dragged into this personal war of his, and Jack had to live a life none would ever want, a life of slave, a weapon.

I also really like that when Jack did do it, he didn't do it immediately, Andrew had to give the order even several times to it. Maybe he also thought of it as finally the ending of a the war, he could release Jack from his chains either alive or dead.

You are right, one of the best and most mysterious events in gaming.

I ask you is a man not entitled to his bioshock fan art? no says the man in Washington they belong to the poor, No says the man in Moscow they belong to everyone! I rejected those answers instead I chose deviantart.

This is awesome! ^__^ I always loved that part in the game, the raw emotions Jack must have been feeling at the time, as all the hard truth of everything set in, and since he couldn't really do anything, but do what he was told! Gads, it still gives me the chills, and so does your drawing of it! So amazing, the expressions, the poses, the coloring, the lighting, etc.

I also enjoyed this scene, I played as good Jack through it but accidently harvested 2 Little Sisters playing the first time But this has to be one of my favorite scenes good work (Now Would You Kindly submit more Bioshock fanart Boyo?)

Ranger-26 In reply to Traillbits [2012-05-31 20:07:54 +0000 UTC]

I had that problem the first time around as well, though I validated my reasons for being that they were soulless creatures that usually held back and qualms I might've had about harvesting them at first. Until I was in Tenenbaum's Sanctuary, then I was all 'Aw fuck, I didn't know D:'.
Then right after that I started saving them. XD

MindtellWYK came up with a rather good idea for a next piece, so I'll be planning it out today and hopefully will get started on it at the beginning of next week.

Gah, that must have been so hard! Luckly, when I first started playing the game, my Uncle had already played through it, so he had told me it was better to save them! Of course I did, since I know if I was in the situation, I would have saved them!
