Description Gorgo (Gorgopotamus maximus)
Size: 4.2-7.9
Range: Central Mu
Habitat: Flooded grassland, swamps, waterways and forest
Diet: Water plants and reeds
Gorgos are bizarre semi-amphibious hippo like mammals descended from the Xenungulates of the Palaeocene. Herds number 10-27 consisting mostly of females, with a dominant male and a few subordinate males, spending their time wallowing in the mud or resting in the water. They have thick skin that helps to protect the males when they use their sharp tusks to injure their opponents in fights over territory and for protection from carnivorous crocodilians.
